With barbless hooks,I would think you would need to have hands on the one rod at all times.

If he caught a cutthroat there, that had to have been an extremely rare native fish that came from one of the upper creeks. I'd like to see a photo of that.

Looking at my previous post, it sounds like I am doubting you. I didn't mean it that way at all. It is very possible to get a cutt at Daniels. As I said there are a few cutts left in the creeks above there, and they can migrate down into the reservoir. I just meant that it is a rare catch, and I would love to see a picture of it. Tell him congratulations that is a great fish anywhere!

Put me down for wanting to see a picture. I have fished there for about 10 years and never seen a cutt. What strain? I know there are Kamloops there.

I'm getting old & I don't remember how many years ago it was, but one year & one year only we caught a whole bunch of cutt's down by the dam in about 50' of water through the ice. (A year when we actually had some water) At the time I assumed they were Bear Lake cutt's coming out of water that deep. Haven't caught any since that I remember, but they were definately in there at one time.

Bear Lake cutts were stocked in Daniels in the 90s with the last stocking in 2000. I don't remember if the poisoning of Daniels was before or after that. Probably before....
They stock sterile bows exclusively now.
Either way, Bonneville Cutthroats do live in the streams (Wright and Dairy Cr) above Daniels. Some reproducing rainbows live in Little Malad Cr. It is possible to have both cutts and cutbows in Daniels. Just rare.
Same thing as with the cutts that are caught in Deep Cr. Reservoir. Natives of the streams above.

Maybe I shouldn't have called him my friend, as I fished chesterfield last saturday. A guy, his wife, and dog showed me a pic of a cutty claimed to come from Daniel's. So to get back to the TOPIC OF ICE (none as of saturday) I believe him. Oh, and I've caught a cutt out of deep creek and still trying on that brookie out of Hawkins.
Believe or call it Faith!

I used to catch cutthroats at Daniels all the time. Well, usually a few per year. I haven't fished there as religiously the last few years as I used to though.

A brook out of hawkins may prove to be a very difficult task. Last one I seen and even hurd about coming out of there I caught 2 years ago. Over by the inlet in January. They quit putting brook trout in there some time ago. Wish they would have kept them in there because they grew to very nice sizes. Wish I could find pictures from when I was a kid. Back in the early 90's it wasnt uncommon to.see a 20" brook come out of there. But for reasons of cutthroat they quit stocking brooks. And if you happen to find one it will be an very old stragler or one that some how found its way from one of the creeks above. Ive been begging the F&G to start stocking hawkins with them again.
but they said it will probably never happen because they are more concerned about the cutthroat.
