I fished the bear river today. On ice. Had about 6" at the hole with 2-3 feet of water at the holes. I lost a gorgeous cut throat right at the ice as my second hook got snagged. Pulled 3 white fish through. I also lost a few other white fish and smaller trout as well. The nice cut was on a pumpkin colored tube jig with a glow 1/8oz head. Lost a couple of trout on that. All the white fish were on a custom jigs ratso in glow head white plastic and they liked a tear drop in white and black. I tipped everything with a fresh waxi. No giant fifth but the little time I was it was a blast. I have another much bigger and deeper hole in mind with in the next couple days. No pics. Did keep the whities for smoking.

River ice fishing. I've heard that can be pretty spooky, but with 6 inches . . .
I won't pester you for GPS location, but I'm guessing your were on the upper parts of the Bear to be getting in Cutts and Whities. Sounds like fun.
Is it slow moving water where you go? I'd guess if you have pools or eddies. . .
I'm nearer the lower end of the Bear - and have wondered about the sloughs for ice. I have seen some signs of drilling and walking. Might have to give it a try!
Just been warned of moving water under ice - if you were to break through - might get dragged downstream... I guess it's happened to cows.
I was fishing the state section just south of Evanston. It's 3-4 miles from Evanston towards the Unitas. You can see it on walk in mapps. I bring knotted rope and tie off. I fish the same pools during the spring and summer.
