wanting the vexilar fl-8 i figure i dont need all the bells and whistles and i hear from quite few people you dont really need anything more than the fl-8. if anybody has any input i would be glad to listen. also are there any accessories that are a must have. somebody told me they make something for the vexilars to make it easier to see fish in shallower water and i was thinking of picking that up.

It works great except in weedy areas. The f-18 has a power setting you can adjust to clear things up. That is the only bell or whistle I wish to have.

I bought a marcum showdown 5.6 last year and have been pretty darn pleased with it. Simple to use, easy to read. I notice its on sale around the web right now.

I have the fl-20. That low power mode is awesome in shallow water. When you turn on normally it picks up all the weeds and clutter but when you shift to low power mode it take almost all of it out. I'm also going to have the opportunity to use the night mode next week so kind of excited. Only had for a month and sold on product

I'm a fan of the tri-ducer with my FL 12.

I wouldn't buy one without bottom Zoom. Makes a huge difference in seperation of targets.

Hard to beat the lx-5 with zoom and super fine line. If you are anything like me than get the absolute best you can afford or you will shopping for a better one next year.
In addition to a zoom also consider a flasher with interference rejection if you are going to be fishing in proximity to other flasher users.

Chrome--you mean all your great reports over the years you were actually fishing blind, holy crap you are a good fisherman! I am an fl-8 man, it works great, however, if I bought another; meaning my son needs to start begging for one I would get something with zoom, however, I can't believe how just the fl-8 makes a difference. I know one thing though I will be a Vexilar guy for life!

Ive owned the fl-8 for 3yrs it was a great first flasher however I wouldnt recommend a vexilar to anyone ! They suck bigtime from the the fl-8 to the fl-22 you get 400 watts period why pay more for the same ! Invest in a marcum lx-5 -6-7 or the hummingbird ice55 way more watts less interferance and better bang for your buck in my opinion ! Ive since gave my vex to my son and am currently fishing with a lowrance and wont be going crosseyed again looking at a flasher anytime soon !! My 2cents

I like Marcus as well but in this case more power doesn't help unless your fishing really deep water. It's just a ford - Chevy argument. Whatever you get will make you better. Any good unit has interference rejection. I can fish side by side with a marcum with no problems after taking turns using interference rejection. Some don't like the blinking lights. I personally love them. Check all the features then get the best you can afford. I have used Both of the main brands. They are both great. I think if I had the money to buy another I might lean towards the marcum lx-5.

I have been looking at the Hummingbird ice 55. Another fishing site had someone saying you could get one for 399 plus a $40 rebate last month, Wish I would have known. Some like the ice 35 as a good basic unit. Any flasher is probally better that my graph.
