I'm not usually one to complain about businesses or people online but cabelas customer service was down right awful tonight. I called in advance to see if they had the vexilar fl-8 and nobody there even knew what I was talking about until one employee got on the phone and said uh yeah I think we have some. When we got there the only vexilar they had was the fl-22. We couldn't pay an employee to help us they were nowhere to be found and when we did find a young kid that was casually walking around the fishing department he didn't know anything about flasher units. Well 3 out of the four units they did have were A little out of my reach in explaining the money to the wife right before Christmas. the only flasher they had that wasn't a hundred and fifty dollars more was the marcum vx-1 pro. after reading its capabilities and deciding that i was tired of not having a flasher for ice fishing. I went out on a limb dove in and brought it home. It has 1000 watts of peak to peak power, interference rejection and target seperation down to 2.15 inches. It also has zoom for 20, 40, 80 and 160 feet and a twenty-degree transduecer. It also states it handles weeds really well. (Which somebody previously mentioned was a problem with the fl-8.)

Just curious if anybody has any experience with this unit and if you think that it will be a good setup for a couple years at least. It seems that I might have lucked out and got a better unit for around the same price as what I intended but I'm also a little nervous because I didn't research this product at all before I bought it.

By the way thanks for the compliment ovidcreek this was the only way I felt I could step up my catch rates on the ice this year.

I have a marcum, it's probably even the same model (I can't remember for sure off the top oft head, but I also bought it there at cabelas). I've had mine for a couple years now and I absolutely love it. I didn't really know any better when I bought it, but have since compared it to other more expensive units and decided that the one i got was the perfect one for me. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised and ice fishing is about to get much more fun for you!

I just bought the marcum showdown troller. I used it yesterday for the first time. It was nice finally having an ideas of what was below you. It took a few minnutes to figure it out and know what I was looking at but mine is really easy to use and I loved it. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. It is a lot better than nothing.

My flasher is the VX-1, In my opinion you don't need anything else, does the job, even won a few tourneys with it, good choice,

You will love your new fish finder. You will be surprised how many more fish you will be able to ice. It ups my catch rate by at least 50%.

I had a VX-1 and it was a nice flasher. I sold it and upgraded to the Marcum LX-5 which has a few more features but the VX-1 worked just as good in 90% of the fishing situations.
