Got to Henry's about 3:30 Christmas Eve. Wind was blowing at least 30 mph coming from the west and there's this guy chasing his Frabill hard bottom shack down the lake, poor fellow I thought until I realized it was my dad trying to get a line in before all of us. We were at Jarreds ranch and there was also a Eskimo, screw down tent in the marina. It didn't stay screwed down for long, the wind tore it out of the ground and sucked it about 25 feet in the air. My friend and I help tackle it and wrested it to the ground, the screws were bent in a 45 degree angle. It took my friend and I all we could muster to get my dads framework of his tent untangled and dragged to shore. I hoped Christmas day would be better.
December 25
Christmas morning cold with just a slight breeze. It didn't get over 15 degrees but the fishing was good and we all got fish, three of us getting our two fish. I hooked one off my jawjacker that when I saw it I knew I had a big one, all that would fit through the hole was the tip of his nose and a little bit of his gill plate, what a toad. Have you ever seen the slush bugs you use with the jawjackers? They are I think a number eight hook. When that thing popped out of his mouth it hit me between the eyes like a gun shot. Maybe a big one next time.
December 26
Absolutely still. Lot warmer than the other day. When I popped my Vexilar in the first hole it lit up like a Christmas tree and we had busy action from first light till the time we left at about 1:30. Jigging leeches was my hot ticket. I landed fifteen fish just off of those and another 6 or eight of the jackers. All in all, the five in our group, Grandpa, wives and husbands all took home the nice cookie cutter fish you catch at henry's.
All said and done a good time had by all and I will have that big ole hy-brid haunting my dreams for a while to come. Will try to post some pictures next post, still learning how to do. Happy fishing everybody!
