Drove up during lunch today. Optimistic, I know, but it's nearby.
There is a tiny patch of ice near the intake tower. That's it.
The water looked really cold, though.

Thanks for that report. I was wondering how things were looking up there. Maybe 1 more week. I'm looking forward to it!

I'm thinking longer than a week unless your climbing the rocks by the dam . . .

I did the same thing yesterday and today after hitting the ski hill. The amount of ice near the intake tower today was about twice as much as yesterday. I still think we're looking over a week before it's ready.

I drove to the boat launch 3 pm yesterday (1/01) and that entire section is capped albeit with a thin layer. Lots of stress cracks but maybe in 2-4 more days? I won't be surprised to see a few brave souls trying it here very soon but I will wait a little longer.
The shoreline south from the docks towards the house and floating dock looked open still a few feet out. Water level looks better then I thought it would, but everybody be safe and give her some time

I was thinking of checking it out tomorow. I'll wait until after my next string of shifts through the weekend. By then it should be fairly safe. I hope.

I will be there again tomorrow in the afternoon and Friday....will report again

Stopped at Ririe on the way back from Pali

es again today. The ice continues to build but I'm still not comfortable with it. Someone drilled test holes around the dock and someone even ventured out westward and looks like maybe fished it. Three guys fishing off boat slips to the North. I walked around the dock a little but I'm going to give it a few more days. Shore a little soggy. A few others stopping to check as well. I didnt check thickness but just a guess......maybe 2-3".....maybe I'll fish it Saturday
Froze my nads today BTW even in the shanty with a heater....dress warm and be safe

So did you fish Pali

es someplace today?

Yes I fished Big Elk. Fairly slow but several very nice kokanee and C&R 3 cutts. I ran into a few which have fished the main Res at Big and Little Elk and had better action but ice wasn't as thick and with the lower water level you have to scale the bank. Not too deep of snow yet so not too bad hiking. Big elk cove is way low

I heard they were fishing Ririe today.

It generally takes a week or two after the whole lake freezes for the fish to turn up in big schools. Until then you are pretty much chasing ones and twos.

Fished it Saturday 3 to 6. Marked 2 and iced one rainbow. Ice is 3 to 4 inches.
A big thanks to the guys who shared their auger.
