Decided to head up to Idaho this morning and try some perch fishing at Weston, something I had not done for many years. My son and I arrived at 0740 and were on the ice fishing by 0800 to -7 degrees with no one else on the lake. We stayed until noon with out much luck, I watched several groups come and go in that time frame with no luck. I ran into a nice young gentleman from Idaho (A fellow BFT'R) "Flyfishingfool" Real nice young lad who loves to fish Weston especially from a float tube. He did land a nice chunky rainbow while we were talking that went 16 or 17 inches, just guessing. He said he had never caught a walleye so I invited him to join me this summer for a day at Willard bay to chase the walleye and wipers. He was still working different areas on the lake when my son and I left at noon. I'll have to try another lake on my next Northward trek in a quest for perch.[fishin]

I don't know why Weston is slow to ice fish. I remember that last year no one was catching anything there through the 2011/12 winter either.

I do know that the perch are sometimes hard to find there in the summer too!

Thanks for the report. I almost stopped in at Weston and then thought better of it. From the sounds of your report I'm glad I didn't spend my time there. Better luck next time. I can tell you the perch at Montpelier need to be thinned out if you want a gazzillion 4-8"ers.

It was nice chatting with you today as well. I tried a few mores spots on the lake but never caught any more fish and only saw one more trout on the camera. I tried a couple other reservoirs in the area and they were pretty slow as well. Weston can be very rewarding, you just have to put in the work to find the fish. I didn't look too hard today.
