Hey all! my father in law and I went to Hyrum this morning from 8-12. Ice was 3 inches. We fished the northeast side of the lake. My FIL caught four (trout), I caught 0! [mad] We were using power bait. I tried using shrimp but they wouldn't stay on the hook.

Good to hear the ice is thickening up on that end of the reservoir. Stinks about the fishing, though. But like everyone says, that's why they don't call it catching. You'll get into them sooner or later. For me, it's just nice to get out.

Yeah, I used to live up in Logan, and for some reason I had the hardest time catching at Hyrum. I still enjoy the scenery and am sure things will work out at some point. I look forward to springtime in Mantua[sly]

Must have been the spot you were in. My daughter and I were on the south west and we caught over 40 fish. Great morning.

Being on the southeast end, did you walk on from the beach area?

I know your not asking me, but I did on Sunday and we made it across okay. Just didn't get to close to the inlet, but the ice has been growing since then too. As a point of reference I am pushing 280lbs.

If I remember I'll bring some shrimp. But waxies and perch eyes are always a good start. Actually have some fresh perch heads destined for some BIG hookups, if I'm lucky enuf to Jack-Em!

Pink always seemed a good option for the troutses.

Got some trout roe sacks I oughta play with.

We'll see how it goes. Always figured - start shallow, work deeper - follow the fish. Had some crazy days last year!

Thanks for the ice- update!
Thanks for the info. So what you're saying is at 140, I should be ok? [Wink]

I am meeting Coyotespinner in the morning to give it a whirl. Hopefully the first day fishing of the new year will be kind to us.

Hey guys if ya have room I may run over for a little while. You fishing the east end? Is the hill to swim beach open enough I can drive my car down or will I need the 4WD truck? Later J

Sure thing! We will have room. I am not sure about the road Dow to the beach, though. I haven't been over there to check it out in the last week.

I don't know if you get updates on your phone but I'm trying just outside the swim area now. This area was good last time I trolled here but so far no bites in about a half hour in the water so I may move. Hill is snow covered but ok. Later J

Hah - does he get updates on his phone . . . silly question! I've got the General Lee theme stuck in my head! (da Duuuukes)

It was pretty chill out, but we had a good morn. Kept talking about treking across the lake, but never did move. Think we might have had more action if we were shallower, as most folks were. But had an itch for perch, so . . . mostly graphed fish around 10ft down in about 25' of water. But Bama landed the one perchie, so started playing on the bottom. Hooked a couple that escaped short of the hole.

Trout cruised through about every 15 minutes, and things turned on, then off. No super toads, but fat pink, pretty bows. The nicer ones around the 14-15 mark, though a few underfooters.

Had my jawjacker set aside with a fat perchhead - waiting for my big brown to come. Several set-offs, but no hookups. Where's those aggressive Tigers when you need 'em!

Nice seeing ya on the way out J, bumped into CV at the store on the way in. But he was headed to the other side again. Won't be long till we're seeing 'other' sleds on that lake.
Pretty morning out, sure was nice when the sun kicked over the hill! Though by noon the wind picked up, and it was time to go.

Here's Bama "cracking" a Smile before launching!

Hey Yote, thanks for the plank I'll have to try that. Sorry I was on a short day or I should have came with you guys. I still stayed longer than I should have but that last hour didn't do me much good. Ended up with 9 on the day one 15 and two 13.5s the rest were bait. Ran out of those wax worms I got from you today. They did well for me 38 perch and 5 trout, not bad for 20 waxies. Was your perch fair sized? Those two trout I kept to smoke were sure easier to fillet than the perch have been. Hope they'll taste okay. Kept a male today and it sure was slimey I've got to remember to turn those back this time of year. Well thanks for the visit catch ya next time. J
