I took my daughters up sledding New Year's Eve and had a blast so we decided to go again today (New Year's Day).

However this time I decided I'd throw my pole in as they like sledding for an hour or so longer than I do.

Great decision that.

I was fishing the small bit of open water with a few others. We were all pitching Jakes and the action never stopped.

I caught 7 fish in about 45 mins... all in the 11-13" range. One Brown, Six Rainbow. It was literally an every 2-3 cast fish-type day. The bite was very light though... definitely had to set the hook when the struck.

All but one of the larger rainbows that was hooked rather nastily went back.

I still haven't officially been ice fishing yet, but that was a really fun almost hour of tugging goodness.

Great way to start 2013 fishing!

Still open water up there?

About 100 square yards of open water Wednesday, mostly near the inlet. A very little bit near the dam....

Several times I cast clear across the water and had to pull my lure across the ice to the open water.

In fact the Brown hit my lure about the same time as it fell off the edge of the ice on about cast #3.
