I have a hummingbird fish finder. The transducer that it came with is peppermint attached to our boat. I am wondering what you guys have for your ice fishing set ups another regular transducer, portable (suction cup), or the ice (bell shaped) transducer? What do you like best?
How do you have them set up for ice fishing?

I have a humminbird and a second transducer that is attached to the bottom of a "T" made of PVC pipe. I drill a hole for the fish finder and then drop the "T" into that hole. The top of "T" is wider than the hole!
Is is a regular transducer that you could mount to a boat permanently if wanted?
I have to get a new one so I can use the finder Ice fishing and I just don't know which one to get.

I have a second boat mount transducer that I use with my Eagle finder.
I use PVC tubing to make the holder for the transducer.
Tube Dude has some pictures of how to make the holder, if you can find them.
I put it all in a plastic ammo box and mount the finder bracket on the top of the box.
The battery goes inside the box with the stored PVC parts. It has worked very well for me for over 6 years.

If you go to the Humminbird website, they list a variety of transducers you can order. Be sure to check their list of which units are compatible with which xducers. If in doubt, call them. (Their customer service is fabulous)
Once you have the model number, you might want to search the web to see if a dealer offers that xducer at a lower price, but it's often just as handy to order direct from H'bird.

If hummingbird makes one that will hang straight, that is the way I would go. You can cut a piece of pipe foam and set it up just like vexilar and marcum do. Then all you do is adjust your stop for the ice thickness, set it in the whole and it is straight every time with no messing with it. It doesn`t get easier than that.....Fishon

I bet Humming bird has an ice unit that will work with your finder. I have the 565 unit and I bought the ice transducer last year for it, works great.

Yes, it is a regular transducer that could be boat mounted. I have one permanently mounted on the boat and one on the PVC pipe.

My Humminbird Operations Manual lists the transducer type in the Specifications section in the back. If you don't have one see if you can find the manual on-line.
I used the boat transducer that came with my humming bird for two years. I questioned it everytime I went out. I was really unhappy with it and almost sold it to buy something else. Then I found the ice transducer replacement on Amazon it's just like the ones on there humming bird 35, 45,55 flasher line. It hangs straight down in the hole and even came with a foam float. It is way more sensitive and way easier to deal with then the boat transducer. It's the only way to go for ice fishing.
