I forgot how thick is the ice?

Folks have been fishing the dam end (west) for some time. We went out last week from the beach area, and had about 2 inches of clear ice, then 2-3 inches of frozen slush.

The cold cold nights and days - I'm sure it's well capped by now. We even saw a 4-wheeler come down - they didn't go far. Lots of folks line up along the cliffs on the N/E side following the inlet flow. But there was a string of tents along the west end also. Last year we'd start shallow, then move deeper as the day progressed.

Rainbows were crusing through about every 15 minutes - about 10 feet down. Most folks were shallower, we hit it about 20-25ft depth. One perch off the bottom, and a couple more hookup up.

Check around - there's been a few reports - might have to go back a page.
Was thinking about giving it another try tomorrow. Might even USE the tent and heater this time!
I was there this morning. Ice was 5+ inches thick where we were.

Hyrum rocked hard today. There was plenty of ice with wheelers everywhere today. I had 6 to 7 inches of ice where I was today and I had my best outing in over a year. I quit at 60 bows today. I went alone so I know it's like a hole in one when your alone no one will believe it but it was a great day, I think I had about 25 over 13 inches the rest were 7 to 10 inch. I used my golf clicker to keep track of the fish but I may have missed a few because as soon as the jig got to the bottom I had another hit. Largest was about 10 fish at 14 inches. Once I lost my jig things really slowed down I hope it was time of day but I'm feeling pretty bad I lost that ratso. I only caught 5 or 6 fish on my other pole, dont know if it was the hole or the lure. Was using crab and waxies today. More larger fish on the crab. I was fishing the east end. Good luck tomorrow. getting ready (slowly) to head there this morning. Hopefully I can get the boyz into some of that kind of action.

So - how deep were you? What was the hot color? Those fake crabs strips might be really cool- see how you could pull a "string cheese" type strip, and let it wave and waggle...(it's really just pressed fish after all)

Now the most important question - out of all those 60 fish - did you catch anything of value? Like a PERCH! (teehee)

I didn't stop for pictures, but had a wonderful braised trout salad last night. Brined filets lightly browned in butter, sweated some onions, peppers, bed of spanish rice, spinach, topped with pepper jack cheese and olive oil dressing. Hmmm Hmmm good!

Just TOOO danged cold to run the smoker.
Yote I was 18 Ft deep and using a cream/green glow ratso in a size 12. I think they quit making this color last year. I hope they have picked it back up this year. Anyway no perch all bows and its too cold for my smoker as well but that salad sounds mighty tasty. Good luck today. I'll save ya a seat at church in case you get done early. Later J
