Was fortunate enough to hit Rockport with a couple friends. We got on the ice at 8:30 AM. I had pretty good success on the 1st about 200 yards south west from the boat ramp so we decided to try that spot again and see if we could repeat our success. We popped a few holes in 38 ft of water and we were marking fish all over the bottom so we set up shop and went to work. Within 2 minutes of having our lines in the water my buddy ( first timer on the hard deck ) landed his first fish through the ice a chubby 9 inch perch. It was looking like it was going to be a great day...... or so we thought. We didn't get a nibble for the next 45 minutes. We were throwing everything at them and they just weren't wanting anything to do with it. Over the next couple hours we moved around and punched holes everywhere with no success. We tried all depths between 15-45 feet and weren't having much success. Around 11:30 we ended up landing 4 more perch in 40' all were caught on small perch colored ice jigs tipped with meal worms just a few inches off the bottom. The bite was super lite. All in all only landed 5 perch smallest was 6" biggest was 11. The big one was hooked up with the Jawjacker. I'm very happy with that little piece of equipment. Great for dead sticking your second pole. Weather was great but the fishing was slooooow. Still had a great time and can't wait to get out there and try it again.
