First trip of the new year and I thought I was going to be skunked. Speaking of skunks, not a one seen or smelled on the trip to the lake even though January is love season for them and quite a number get squished about now. As for other wildlife, I did see a dead possum and a very flat raccoon, as well as a dog having breakfast out of a tipped-over garbage can and later two crows at the same spot on the trip home.

Back to fishing: On the water in the dark, I didn't expect the rain that we got for an hour or so but suited up and the warm weather kept me toasty. Made lots of drifts near the nuke plant with nothing to show for them. Finally zeroed in on the tiny little go-to spot that seems to produce when the flow is around 40,000 cfs and hung a fun 16 pound blue that gave me a fight on the 6 pound test. A bit later I had another hit in roughly the same spot that missed (got the skipjack though!) so I re-baited and sent it down again. Solid hookup and I can't budge this one on the 6 pound test. It took me about 15 minutes to coax the 35 pound blue cat out of the depths and into my net. A pic or two and it was released since it too was such a small fish Wink

I left after only a few hours to attend a concert by the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra (ha - figured me for a jug-and-washboard band type of guy, huh?) that had a guest classical guitar player featured. He was really great, and I truly also enjoyed the orchestra's performance of "Barber of Seville". (For those of you with their noses slightly less in the air, there was a GREAT Buggs Bunny cartoon with Elmer Fudd that featured the music emoBigSmile emoBigSmile ).

Today's pics:
