Does anyone have an update on the Gorge and the burbot fishing? Ice? I'm thinking about heading down next week. Do I need 4-wheel drive?
Thanks,
Jeff

I fished near Holmes Crossing last Tuesday and it was 9-inches and the Confluence last Friday and it was 11-inches. Lake trout pup fishing was good at both spots in 60 FOW and burbot were good near Holmes (for numbers). I've seen ATVs on the ice at both locations. It's been pretty warm during the day though, so you'll want to watch for changing ice conditions, especially around pressure ridges.
Hope it helps and good luck, Ryno

I'm here on the lake right now. Paved roads, even side roads down to lake are completely clear of snow. On dirt roads, there are a few patches that are iffy for any 2wd.
Ice around Holmes crossing is >10 inches, and as TDT posted, the ice is very slippery. Hit the deck myself once even with traction.

I am so excited for the burbot bash. In the words of Bart Scott "Can't Wait!"

Ice around Holmes Crossing is 10"+ and clear with only a few small snow patches here and there.
Ice at Firehole is 18-22" with a light snow covering.
By this next weekend, you will not need 4wd to reach anything but the most remote spots on the back dirt roads that may have a wind-drift or a north-facing area.
They were biting on almost anything, at depths from 15-45 feet at both locations. It was fast from about 5:30 to 7:30, but then slowed. Didn't stick around late enough to see if a second bite started later on.
