Pelican was great fishin today, 6 Bass and 18 Bluegill in 4 hours. While filleting these fish I noticed small white parisites in both the species though, does anyone know what these are and if they are harmful to the fish or humans. Seems like the bluegill had them much worse than the bass. Despite the parisites this was one of the best fishin days this winter, has anyone got some reports on starvation, is the perch or walleye fishin picking up at all it would be good to know.

The bluegill fillets are fine to eat, but I hear the parasites the bass get could kill you. Thats why I just throw em back.[

There were liver flukes in some of the fish we caught back in the Midwest. Those things are NASTY if eaten. Blue heron were the one of the hosts for them. They are white and look more like maggots.

Well guys thanks for the info, I looked over the fillets and cut the nasty little buggers out and eat them for dinner last night anyway. I have fished there every winter for a long time and never noticed this many of them, two of the bluegill I just threw away and the rest I just had one or two of them to cut out.

yup pelican lake is a lot of fun for us but its catch and release for us. this year alot of the bluegills and bass have parasites on them. Some of the bass even have them on their fins.
either way its alot of fun to catch em take some quick pictures and release them for someone else to catch. Or for other anglers to catch and eat some of them to.[fishin]
