Hey there dedicated anglers,

I've planned a float from below the dam @Hagerman to the Shoestring Bridge for Feb. 3rd. I Google Earth mapped it @ 7 miles.

Anyone on here float/power boat this stretch of water?

Anyone have any luck hooking anything other than sturgeon or NPM?

I did find one youtube video of a couple dragging in a 3-4lb. rainbow from the base of the dam in Hagerman.

We are hoping to find some rogue lunkers that escaped the hatcheries.

Any insight to the fishing would be helpful.

Thank you BFT,

Ryan

I used to live down on river road and there are some nice fish in that stretch. LMB. SMB and rainbows. Wooly worms, spinners and crankbaits. Most of the water right now is spring water and comes out at 54 degrees, mix that with what little comes down the river it should put it in the upper 40s. Take it slow and hit every back eddy and spring. The old timers use worms and corn on a dropshot rig. (The bass guys think it's a Japanese thing) lol Pay attention were you step onto the bank, the locals are cool, but the transplants are kinda nuts. If you keep going past the bridge right around the corner it is flat water to the Bliss powerplant, there a nice ramp and park.

Good luck . . . DaleSmile

I have never floated that piece. I know there is some rough water there. There is a take out above the bridge that most people get out at. The spot just above the bridge is a class 4 or 5 at times. I saw a boat go through it but it is beyond my ability's.
I have floated from the bridge to the Bliss Dam. It is slow going and I didn't have any luck and that was in August.
I know that the area from Lower Salmon dam to the mouth of the Malad river used to have BIG brown trout. I don't think I would float it this time of the year. It is way too cold for me. Ron

Thank you for the input gents. We will be throwing a lot of hardwear throughout the day. I'll be steelhead style bobber and jiggin' a bit. I will try the drop shot approach a bit. We have one guy that is a dedicated fly angler. Maybe I'll convert him back to spin gear...

Thanks again BFT.

Keep your eyes open for pole holders, there are 8.5 ftrs there. Just saying. lol
Study my early videos on youtube. My friend closed the place due to rednecks and beercans. One of the only places I like to bank fish. The water is coming up, I'll extend an invite soon. Tight lines . . . . Dale Smile

Thanks, I need it to get quite a bit warmer for me to get my boat out. Ron
