I've been out several times these past few weeks to different locations and have put an underwater camera down. I've seen a number of fish swim by but they seem to have no interest in a jigged lure or one that isn't moving. They just swim by and head off somewhere. Has anyone else noticed that? Doesn't appear to matter what type of lure or jig or what it is tipped with in the matter of bait. I would have thought that any fish going by would at least take a look at the bait.

I dont have a camera but I have noticed them do that with a flasher. It has to be that they just dont want what Im throwing at them. Fish can be very picky.

You may be fishing in a place with alot of pressure? Or your bait doesn't resemble what they have been feeding on? When I have that problem I change to something smaller plus sometimes scent helps. Sometimes I change out to a fly like a whoolybugger with a tiny splitshot and just let it swim around slowly....

oh and maybe they can see your line? Ive used a bunch of different types and brands and it seems like the smallest test that will still catch your fish is the best. Just my 2 cents.....
I would be interested in what time of the day you have been fishing and which lakes you have been to. Just throwing this out as a "hail Mary" but what about glow in the dark?

Well, the main place was up at the Devil's Creek derby in Idaho and we were fishing from the starting gun til closing. We must have seen 30-40 fish swim by and only one took a look at our stuff. No bites, tho. Didn't seem to matter if we jigged or not. Lately I've been up at East Canyon and fished from about 10 to 3 with the same results, although I did catch one right off the bat. Just seemed to me that fish cruising around looking for food would at least check out stuff they see moving in the water.

This may not be anything, but what kind of jigging technique have you been using? Extreme, heavy movement or just a little twitch here and there?

Being somewhat desparate to find out what the deal was, I've tried them all.

Just a thought, do you put on sunscreen at the lake? Fish don't like sun screen and unless you wash it off GOOD the can smell it. Do it before you go and wash your hands good. They don't like gas and oil much ether. Be codes didn't your mother tell you to always wash your hands?

I see that happen all the time on my camera. In fact unless there is a feeding frenzy going on the majority of the fish that you will see will almost never even take a second look at your bait and swim on.

What I have noticed is that when a fish comes into view and is swimming a nice smooth even pace rarely bite. Now if you see a fish come in with it's fins up and has more of a jerking back and forth movement are the one that are mnore likely to bite.

Watch them over time and you can see the differences in their moods and can tell which one are truely active.
