After seeing these big fish it seems several keep posting I just had to go out this afternoon for a couple hours and try my luck. I tried to get Ben Hayes to go with me but he was tied up. I really think his better half had laid the law down that he went yesterday so today was out. emoPoke I then tried Churly who lives close by and thought sense he was so close he could be over quickly. He answered and when I asked what he was doing he told me he was already fishing. emoDoh I decided to give up and just go by myself.

Got there about 1:00 this afternoon and headed for some shallow flats off the main river looking for water out of the current. The lake was really muddy in most areas but I was able to find a little less muddy in some of the pockets. I used three baits. The shakey, the TN rig and the trap. All three worked for me a little but none that much better then the other. I did not catch my 30 lb stringer. emoBigSmile For that matter I did not catch a twenty lb stringer. I did catch a few nice ones thou. I weighed the three biggest, they were 3/6, 3/7 and 5/4. I did not weigh any others.

The biggest excitement I had today was as I was moving around a secondary point in a big pocket I kept thinking about those double digit bass that are being caught here lately. I was wishing I could catch one and was throwing a Trap in about four foot of water and reeling out to the boat in about eight foot. Next thing I know I get hammered. emoEek Drag peeling and I can't turn it. I thought, "Here we go, I got a big one!" I fight it in making sure not to break my line but still keep the line tight so not to loose it. Peering down into the muddy water I see one about ten pounds or so, I get the net ready and up she comes. emoBang CRAP!!!! It's a freaking channel cat, what in the world is a channel cat hitting a trap in the winter at four foot of water. emoHoppingmad So much for my ten pound bass.

Still had a great little outing and got to stretch a line on some decent bass. I left at 5:30 and called it a day. emoThumbsup Jmax
