A post a week or two ago suggested screwing ΒΌ" machine or sheet metal screws into the thickest lugs on your boots. Cheap, easy to add/remove and very effective.

I assume that the slotted hex head style (See link) is what was meant. http://www.boltdepot.com/fastener-inform...Chart.aspx

(Just remember to remove your boots before you stride manfully across your hardwood floors!)

Utahgolf I have been making ice cleats for my kids for years. I use 1/4" hex head screws either in 1/4" or 3/8" length into the bottom of their boots. I drill it in the thickest portion portion of the lug sole. I have never found ice cleats that small for my kids. It works great! When they fall out, simply drill a few more in. They have never caused leaks yet! I attached a picture of the two goof- balls trying to look through the ice to see the fish, you can see the home made ice cleats!

I have been using sheet metal screws for years. I want to add to this, spend the extra and get stainless steel or the carbide. The others wear out way too quick and they can be very hard to get back out.
