I may try Koke Saturday at Porcupine, they are small, but last summer it looked like high in numbers so I'm hoping that will make it easier to find them... If you want to drive that far, I'd be glad to try and show you what has worked for me in the past... With Koke the hardest part is usually finding the school of fish, after that if you drop your lure in the middle of them, they usually grab it.. I have done well with Kastmasters and Krocodiles jigged in the past.. Depth is key so a finder seems to help you dial in to where they're at, they usually are suspended somewhere in the column so you won't catch them on the bottom, where most people usually fish for other fish this time of year.. Let me know if you want to try it, I'm about 65% sure I'll go, so plans may change, but I want to give it a try.. Later J

I have only seen one kokanee caught through the ice at Strawberry and it was an accidental catch. If anyone knows how to catch them at Strawberry they aren't speaking (at least, not speaking on BFT). I would suggest you try to fulfill your dream at Causey.

Kay, Watching some of the videos that jordan has put on i think i know how. that is funny that it was a accidental catch, all the record kokes have been caught there, I have also heard that fishing for kokes is better in the summer at strawberry

Don't you need snow gos or something still to get up there. No i most likely won't be able to go, i am eleven, most likely my dad won't take me

I'm not sure on the road conditions up to porcupine. I'm assuming a 4WD will still work to get up there, but I might be wrong. Anyway good luck at Causie. Later J

I have ice fished Strawberry for countless hours over the years & only pulled one Koke through the ice. I was fishing the Soldier Creek side. If you encounter a school they are very aggressive. Usually I fish with something big as I generally target trout. When I saw the school of kokes, I had to quickly rig with something small before I hooked one. The school stayed around for about 5 minutes allowing me to re-rig. The school was down about 10 feet & I could see them through the hole. I was fishing in 60 feet of water.
If you want to target Kokes - I would go to Porcupine or Causey.

How long ago Was that. I would figure that is wherE they would be. That is where they go to spawn in the river. That section of the river

Gotta love those kokes! My favorite fish to eat.I haven't even pulled one up on the ice this season. Probably Cause I haven't been fishing causey much this season. I'm heading to causey this weekend and Hopefully I can convince some kokes to Come home with me. Like it was said above you gotta be rigged up for them. Causey has always been the place to catch kokes on the hard deck. Good luck fishing to you.

I have never caught a koke, and i have never even ate a koke. If you want to get a lot at home you should fish porcupine, skunkedagain is going out there this weekend, you should meet him out there, he says he thinks he knows what they are biting on there. But i say you should go there because you can keep four of any fish, plus four bonus kokes. so if you catch four trout you want to keep and pull up four kokes you can keep the trout and the kokes, or just hope you catch eight kokes.

Caught the Koke a year ago in 2012.

Actually you can have up to 12 Kokes at Porcupine this year. Check the new regs but I think that is what I read. They are so small you need more of them to make a meal but that also let's you know it's sort of over populated so there are lots to catch. Later J

I'll keep that in mind. i wont even keep a trout this weekend. I have plenty to eat. Causey is my fav For kokes Cause It's only a hour drive away and i only need a couple to make a meal. The only other place I catch kokes is at the gorge. Last year was epic for kokes. But of course I would like to catch them everywhere I can.
You need to catch one for dinner. I'll pm you a delicious recipe for salmon. You will be hooked!

Twelve Kokes!! Why too much in the lake. Well if you like the tastes of kokes that is the place to go. One question, i probably won't make it out to porcupine this winter, but do you know how to catch them from a canoe or from the shore there??? Any information would be nice. Thanks

Porcupine is overpopulated with Kokes now so they are stunted and small. The higher limit is to help bring the numbers back in balance. I'm not sure I know how to catch Kokes from shore, but if you can troll in the canoe between 1 to 1.5 mph then use a RMT dodger and squid with a gulp maggot on the hook and you'll be golden and ready to catch fish. I like the hyper silver dodger and a pink cotton candy squid. Good luck. J

Can you get them on ice flys and meal worms threw the ice
[signature]
Yes, you can, pink is the go to color for the kokes through the ice. I'm not sure about the meal worm thought but they might work[:/] but I use wax worms or spikes.
