I caught this fish on a swim bait at the gorge. Waited 25 years to get there now I can check it off the list. This fish was released by me it was 38in long. [fishon][fishon]

Congratulations !
It's always awesome to see people catch a big laker !
I thought that's what everyone used to catch big lakers was a plastic swim bait?
Awesome fish

Thanx cutt, yes it was you can see it in the photo. Its is like a 10 dollar swim that some one left in my gear bag a while back.

Loooove me a swimbait. I got some good ones from the berry last fall and a few bass from various places but nothing compared to that laker. Another picture that almost makes we want to break out the ice gear. Good job.

Thank you FISH ya I caught a few more on some other stuff and don't throw swimbaits much but would like to. I just see some of my fellow anglers most from CA spending 300 bucks on a swimbait and not getting bit while I'm catching bass on plastics. BUT when they do get bit......well you know.[Wink]

Awesome fish! I thought about picking up some of those swimbaits that are on clearance at sportsmans but I never did. Maybe I'll have to see if they still have any.

Nice fish. I have a tackel box full of swim baits, in all kinds of sizes, and cant catch a cold with them. I was thinking of getting rid of them on ebay or something. Now you got me thinking I need to try them again[Smile]

Anybody try a swimbait at fish lake before? I don't know much about catching the big ones but always try. Never tried a swimbait before.

Thanx guys! After putting in so much time and effort into our sport it feels great to score the big one and watch it swim away for someone else to catch. Dedication pays off. EVEN after a 50 hr work week! Here is a few more pics from my first trip to the gorge. CANT wait 2 get back up there!

How are you guys fishing a swim bait in the ice. Attaching it to a large Jig Head? They are pretty light by them selfs arn't they?

I use a swim bait that has a weight in it, you can usually order slow medium and fast sinking swim baits when you order or buy them!
Well I might have a few people Angry with me for posting this but oh well,
Swim baits are the ticket for big lakers in the winter/ ice fishing, at least in my experience!
If its a fast sinking , mimic a dieing minnow by putting on the bottom and tap jig for a while, then every once in a while pull a big jig and let it fall to the bottom.
Slow sinking swim baits , I use long slow jigs to mimic a small fish searching the bottom going up 8 feet, then falling slowly back to bottom!

This has worked tremendous for me on lake trout!
So go out and catch a few[cool]
