I'm planning on taking my kids out ice fishing on Saturday and was considering Utah Lake or Rockport. I haven't heard any reports (other than TubeDude's always excellent and entertaining report on "the Abyss") about the ice or the fishing. The kids are little and we're on foot, so I was thinking of trying one of the harbors. We always love catching the whities in the spring and summer but have yet to try through the ice. Is the ice still in good shape in the harbors? Slush?
Also, any ice reports from Rockport? I was thinking about Rockport or Pineview as plan B and C, but it sounds like the slush is bad on Pineview. Any reports would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

Went down to UL yesterday since it was early out day for the kids and had no luck whatsoever. We tried a couple different spots starting at the Lincoln beach dock and nothing, moved to where we fish for Walleye and nada there as well. Not so much as a bite. It was a beautiful day and the ice was good and thick probably around a foot and the edges were good, but the fishing was a bust.

If condititions haven't changed in the last couple weeks, I had a couple fun days in the river just down from the outlet of UL. It's not ice fishing, but if you park in the lot by the Pumphouse with the big cottonwood tree and follow the river down a couple hundred yards there are some spots.
The river is way down, but the hot springs keep it warm. Up by the lot, it's too warm for the fish, like bathtub warm. Walk down and the water cools some, but is very low. We caught tons of bluegill one trip, some keepers, tons of small crappie the next, one keeper. Also several WB, a couple keepers, to y walleye, perch, and caught variety each time. Anywhere the water was a couple feet deep or more.
Jigs, worms, waxies, ice flies, and a small spinner all worked.

I walked down to the inlet over by the pumphouse that leads out to the lake on the south-west side where it is still frozen on the river (right by the bridge) and the ice and edges are sill solid. I did not check ice thickness as I was just heading to work and wanted to see what the ice was like, but it appears to be good and solid. There are sill 4 wheeler tracks on the ice, so you could probably get down there with your kids and be perfectly safe. I plan to try it out tomorrow and if I do, I will report back.

Was down there this afternoon and got into some blues. The whites are larger than they have been, in comparison to a week ago. Ice is thick, no slush-which is surprising. Harbors are plenty safe for your kids to play on.
