Hey guessers,
Can you identify this old reel and the year it was made? This was my first reel that my dad gave me when I was a kid.
I blocked out the name but will include it later.

Hey there Dryrod,
Well....The handle knobs don't look like they're made from Wooly Mammoth tusks, so it can't be THAT old!

[cool]Hey JapanRon,
Good thought, however the handle knobs are not made out of plastic. The reel was made before plastic really came into its own which was after WWll.

That looks like an old Penn. Don't ask me model # cause that was just a lucky guess.

My guess would be around 1947 and looks like one of these three. Shakespeare, Red River, or Fluger.

I think I will agree with byrum, the crank arm is a clasic shakespear design.
I had one at one time and never could figure out how to cast it. I was as new to angling as you can get way back in 64
we had a thin black braded line spooled on it...

[cool]Hey guys,
Well it is a Shakespeare reel. There was a clue as to the dating in one of my comments.

Hey there Dryrod,
I was thinking maybe identifying regional lures (old but more newer models) might be interesting and educational too. I've heard of a couple of some hot saltwater lures made down Lousisana way but no pictures! Whahhhhhhhh!
I'll look for them on the net today.
