San Antonio, Texas -Thanks to numerous partnerships, collegiate anglers competing in the Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing Series have some serious opportunities awaiting them in 2013. From bonus cash and special "collegiate" pricing, to once in a lifetime experiences, opportunities are there for the taking, courtesy of the Association of Collegiate Anglers and their partners.

According to Danny Blandford, Program Director for the ACA, "We're very proud of the programs we have created for collegiate anglers everywhere. We currently offer eighteen different incentives that anglers can capitalize on, which is up from last year, and still growing as we head into event season. I know several anglers took advantage of these programs last year, some of which ended up with once in a lifetime experiences thanks to our partners and sponsors."

The Ranger Cup University program is a perfect example. At no cost to the students, their program culminated in a one day shootout between Georgia Southern and Virginia Tech on Texas' famed Lake Amistad in a made for TV event. Virginia Tech walked away the ultimate winners with cash, bragging rights, and a fishing trip they'll never forget.

Wyatt Blevins of Virginia Tech, who competed in this, his final collegiate fishing event, said it best. "The whole experience was incredible. We were flown in, fished out of brand new Ranger boats and treated like pros the entire time. The fact we went out and caught a ton of fish on television was just a bonus - this was really a once in a lifetime deal." 2012 Recap / 2013 Program

On the topic of "once in a lifetime", Ranger isn't the only ACA partner to offer such a program. For example, if the winning team of the 2013 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship has both members registered as current TBF members prior to the Championship, that team will move on to the TBF Federation National Championship as a boater and a non-boater, which is only the beginning. The TBF Federation National Championship is a NO ENTRY FEE tournament, with a payout of nearly a quarter of a million dollars in cash and prizes, including the Living the Dream prize package. That package alone could change an angler's life, with an essentially no cost opportunity to compete on the FLW Tour for the season with a fully rigged Ranger Boat, truck, and paid entry fees and travel stipends.

The winning boater and non-boater from this event also earn an automatic berth into the Forrest Wood Cup, another NO ENTRY FEE event, and the pinnacle of bass fishing, with a payout of over two million dollars. Last but certainly not least, winning the Federation National Championship also secures an automatic berth into the Walmart Bass Fishing League All American Tournament and another shot at a one million dollar purse, again at no cost to the angler. University of Central Florida anglers Miles Burghoff and Casey O'Donnell had the opportunity to experience the TBF Federation National Championship in 2012. According to O'Donnell, ""My fishing didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but talk about an awesome event...wow. We had the opportunity to meet some of the best anglers from every state and the camaraderie was amazing. Miles and I were treated like kings, and I can't thank The Bass Federation enough for everything that they did for the anglers. This opportunity and event is something I'll look back on and cherish for the rest of my life."

The 2012 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship team of Ben Dziwulski and Ethan Cox are next in line, and they'll be competing in the TBF Federation National Championship in 2013, courtesy of the TBF and the ACA.

Speaking of the UCF team of Burghoff and O'Donnell, Miles also received his share of benefits from ACA partnerships during collegiate competitions. His membership in the BoatUS Weigh-to-Win program certainly paid dividends.

"I'll be honest with you; a year ago, I didn't pay much attention to tournament bonus programs. I just wanted to win!" admitted Burghoff. "But then I realized how much money I had been missing out on, and signed up. Since then I've won $2,000 through Weigh-to-Win," said Burghoff who just completed his college degree at The University of Central Florida. More Details

Prizes and bonuses aren't just for the "lucky" ones that come out on top at Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing Series events; in many cases they also paid out to the highest finishers. Kenneth Anderson, of the University of Arkansas proved that at the start of the 2012 season.

Kenneth and the Razorbacks were sporting the ACA logo on their jerseys, which was good for a $250 "highest finisher" bonus. They also took the time to register for Cabela's Angler Cash, which was good for another $250 highest finisher bonus. Kenneth also weighed the largest bass of the day while wearing Costa sunglasses, landing an additional $500. To add a little icing to the cake, he was flipping up his fish with Lazer Trokar hooks, from a boat featuring the Lazer Trokar decal, so he picked up an additional $500 worth of Trokar product and merchandise. He also has a new Razorback hoodie heading his way, courtesy of Gemini, since the team picked Gemini as their shirt provider. Collectively over $1,500 worth of cash and merchandise went to Kenneth's mailbox, all because he supported those that support collegiate bass fishing...that is better than first place money...for a fifth place fish.

As Kenneth put it, "It feels rewarding to win money and prizes from the ACA sponsors. Without them, these tournaments would not be what they are today. I hope more college anglers will now realize how important it is to promote sponsors. Just take a look at what it did for me at the Cabela's Collegiate Big Bass Bash." He went on to add, "These awards mean a lot to a college angler like me. Not having a whole lot of money to spend on tackle and equipment while at school, this really helps out a lot. I feel lucky to be given all this money and prizes, being that I got fifth place overall. Several of these prizes would have been twice as large had I been able to actually win the event. This just shows how important it is to participate in the contingency programs."

Looking ahead to 2013 events and programs, Blandford concluded with, "2012 was a great year for our anglers and I look for 2013 to be even bigger and better. Our existing partners are supporting the programs again, and in many instances they are even larger. Ranger Cup University is offering larger guaranteed cash payouts; Yamaha has also increased their payouts and guaranteed money by adding a highest finisher bonus, Trokar has doubled down on their payouts, raising them to $1,000 per event, and Freedom Tackle Corp has added a $500 Big Bass Bounty. On top of all that, anglers can now do research for free thanks to Bass Gold, save big on Big Bite Baits, Sunline, Rod Sox and Bass Mafia products, and even raise funds for their club with our new fundraising program courtesy of Boomerang Tools. I have to say, there has never been a better time to be a collegiate angler!"
