Oh ya ice was in good cond. 6" with 2" of snow on top... Watch out for the springs.. There were a couple spots that looked iffy..

Your right about the youngsters,
Love to see the kids catch big trout, and there are only a few places in the state that you can do that!

we fished around the rock pile today from 8 to 1 pm. Very slow, my buddy caught 1 mac about 5 pounds and full of cisco. Very light and infrequent bite. Lots of folks there - I think we counted about 40 groups in that area. good luck to ya
Did you see any one eles have very much luck and how deep where you if u don't mind me asking

Awesome post Dave, thanks for sharing your report and pics. Sounds like the key was location, was your brother in law getting any bites?
fearfish- You can catch them on sucker or chub meat, I've even caught them on carp meat but cisco is the best in most cases.

My son and I hit Big Blue today. We fished by the pulloff south of Sweet Water resort. Tried 80' and 90'. Saw a few fish in each area but nothing very steady. We had 4 hook ups but they all came unbuttoned before we could see them. Stayed there until 2:00 then went over to the rockpile to see if we could get any white fish. Only managed 5 of them. Everyone I talked to said it was very slow today. I only saw 4 people catch a fish (other than the whites).
Dave, you must have fed them well or educated them for us!
I'll probably wait a week or so then try it agian.
Here is a question for you all. I have some Cisco that has been in the freezer for a few years. When it's cut it's not very oily like a fresh one. Does that matter? Am I wasting my time with stale bait? We tried some sucker meat today but still didn't catch any fish.

Right on I'm headed up there in the morning I'm just going to try tipin it with shrimp and craw fish

My experience is .... Yes old sisco sucks!
Keep it whole and rotated.
Sucker works great, it apperantly was just a slow day

We also fished BL today. Caught some macs (biggest weighing in around 8lbs) and a couple small cutts. We didn't have cisco, i had recently picked up a bottle of cisco scent at pugstones there in garden city and it seemed to do the trick. Hopefully heading back up Monday for another run at them. We did keep a couple of the pup macs and their bellies were completely empty. The action was better early, really slowed down after 10:30

Yes location and luck played a big part.. As far as my bro inlaw getting any bites ?? He was to busy landing my fish to notice.[
] Well not really.. Funny thing .. He was only 10' from me and using the same bait..

We were the only ones out there.. 80' to 90'..

We were fishing in 65' of water, nearly all of the fish we saw on the finder were right on the bottom (within a foot or two)
best wishes
