A few family members and I made the treck up to the gorge this morning. We arrived with the dawn and quickly started hooking up with pups. Sadly they only stayed aggressive until 9 or so. After a lot of expeirmenting we started to get bit while using olive with red flake tubes doused in anise. Those pups can be so fickle!
It was a beautiful bluebird day. I found myself day dreaming of walleye and crappie on warm spring evenings. In between day dreams I managed to ice 12. The group consisting of 3 adults and 3 kids managed a grand total of 30 fish. It was one of those days when you think fishing should be better, then have to load 3 garbage bags full of fish into the truck.
Pictured are the four fish I kept for meals this week. My brother is smoking the rest. I threw in some pics of my fillets and the blackened fish tacos I created out of them. I find lots of fulfillment (no pun intended) in taking good care of the animals I harvest. I enjoy cooking them up for family and friends. I would like to see more posts on here about the fruits of our fishing.

Right on!

I'm with you, I love fryed trout! Cutts, brookies, and yes ... Even lake trout!

I think there are more people that eat thier fish than turn them back, I just think they don't mention it on BFT,for fear of being harassed!

Good job on the fish, right on right on!

I wondered if you ate any of those nice fish you've been catching out of "big blue." I gotta say that my favorite of the trout are the Mac pups, with the exception of a fire roasted, high mountain brookie.

Your right on the money with that order of cooked fish

I usually only take one fish per trip, there have been times I take two trout off bear lake: mostly because of , I have an extra fish that will not live!

Most people smoke the Big Macs , but you can fillet , batter, and fry in a fry daddy... Bam... Awesome!

Sounds like a great day. My family is taking the trip up there on Monday and hope to catch a couple lakers. Pups or pigs either would be fun. Mind me asking how thick the ice was/ Never been up that way.

Ice is 2' at firehole all the way to no ice down around Lucerne. We had 18" where we were. Good luck.

My fish tacos vary depending on the season and what's available in the garden. The ones a made last night were real easy. I used my favorite blackened fish seasoning. You can google blackened fish and loads of recipes will pop up. I just sprinkle both sides of the fillets with the seasoning then fry in the electric skillet on high. I use a T of olive oil to fry them. Make sure the oil is smoking before placing in the fillets. Fry until each side is very crispy and dark brown. Fill corn tortillas with fish, cheese, lettuce, and cilantro. Top with wishbone avacado ranch, salsa, and fresh squeezed lime. In the summers when my tomatoes are on i make fresh salsa. I have also made my own ranch sauce in the blender using a ranch packet, cilantro, limes, sour cream, and milk. It's the same dressing they use at costa Vida.
