Came across this blog. So apparently if you pour some coke onto the gills of a fish thats bleeding from the gills it stops the bleeding... Anyone heard of this? Any relevance? Or is it BS? Check it..

I had heard that citrus soda like Mountain Dew would do the trick, but it wouldn't surprise me if Coke worked too.

I try and save every fish i catch.. i think the beauty of the release is an awesome experience. but seriously. putting pop on a fish in order to save it? for real? today i had a fish swollow my midge on the prove(hot midge fishing right now). and i simply bit it off and tied on a new one. if your hook is burried deep just cut the line. and by the way with 3000 trout per mile i dont think one 12 in. trout is going to hurt anything.I am as Conservative as anyone but lets be realistic.

I am with you, I try and save em' all but it still is a blood sport when you get down to it.

It can come in handy sometimes. I had a couple of days bass fishing this summer where I was fishing crankbaits as fast as I could, and the fish were just inhaling them. The hooks weren't that hard to remove, but gills were nicked on a few nice 17-18" fish and they were bleeding fairly heavily. If all it takes to save some nice fish, is dumping an ounce of soda down their throats, I'm up for it. I guess in this case it doesn't really matter as the canal company threw a tantrum over not getting permission to build the dam they want, so they drained the whole thing and killed all the fish a few weeks later anyway.

It just bugs me that they drained it so quickly, but all the extra water that wasn't used just ran into Twin, which was also drained for dam repair. They put more water into Condie in the fall, so if they could do it then, why couldn't they have done it in August? I still stand by my belief that it was all a bunch of BS that had to do with their Narrows dam. Winder still had lots of water, it wasn't drawn down even close. Oh well, hopefully they can bring some bass over from Treasureton to give it a head start in the recovery. If not, I don't think there's much left after the onslaught of pelicans to even recover. [frown]

I bet you are right it was just them throwing a temper tantrums. Saying well if we cant get what we want then we will show you.... Thats them twin lake canal company mentality. Ive met them a few times and they are ones to.do just that. I hope they leave enough of them in treasurton. I think they should get rid of the trout in there. I mean how many trophy trout waters do we need in a 50 mile radius? Well maybe a 100 mile radius. There are 4 or 5 others all within that. I think they need to drop the whole trophy thing period. I

The water use is part of the problem, but the birds are the real killers.
Condie has been drained down to its minimum pool many times, and it has recovered. I think they were counting on the minimum being enough for the fish as it usually has been, if they thought of it at all. Same as F&G was counting on it surviving too. The pelicans moving in on it is what may have done it in.
I hope that many of the fish survived. I am guessing that some more bass will be added as a booster. Winder is without a minimum pool. So thankfully it wasn't drained, but it still hasn't recovered from the last time it was drained.

I guess they're arguing there aren't any trophy trout waters right in that area. They really want to restore Treasureton to a trout fishery. I don't mind the trophy water designations. It pretty well made the bass catch and release at Condie, and the results were you had a lake full of nice bass. Kind of a shame they flushed that all down the toilet. Oh well, I guess it will force me to learn a new water or two.
I agree, the birds were the nail in the coffin, but they wouldn't have been able to inflict so much damage had they left more water in there.
