Clearly this forum is the best place to find out about what's hot in Utah. But I'm wondering who still reads the actual magazines and which ones.

Whenever I'm at the library I'll look through them but that's about it. Seems like they don't publish as often anymore and have gotten pretty skinny without as many full page ads.

I only recently subscribed to Fly Fisherman but am a bit disappointed that most of what little is there seems to be about fishing in Wherethehellistan. My idea of an exotic fishing locale is Montana, so I'm not very interested in such tales. What I'd like would be some instructional articles.

I usually subscribe to a magazine or two relating to my favorite hobbies, but I’ve looked at mags at the fish shops and agree with Rocky Raab about “Wherethehellistan.”

Paying for a guide on the Green once a year is the max I can afford. While I enjoy the photos of exotic locations, I usually end up feeling reduced and unsuccessful when I read about folks taking 2-4 week trips to Patagonia (min. of $5,000 per person per week), New Zealand, Mongolia, etc.

Instead, I’ve subscribed to a number of digital fly fishing magazines, most of which are free and offer interactive links and videos. I do subscribe to Current digital mag but I think it’s around $2 an issue.

Frankly, the most relevant information to my interests come from this forum.

A few, American Angler, Fly Tyer, Fly Fishing and Tying Journal, Fly Rod and Reel. If anyone wants some older issues and wanna come and get them, give a shout.

I still pick up a paper magazine now and then, but my subscriptions are digital, and there's getting to be some very good free ones out there too. My most recent favorite is MontanaFlyFishingMagazine. Catch Magazine and Drake Magazine are nice too. And the fly-tying ones like FG mentioned. There are some excellent fly tying sites with photos, step-by-steps, and articles about flies and fly tying too. Google will put you on all of these and more if you ask. These and others will also show up in your email or on your Facebook whenever they're updated if you tell them to.
ps. Hatches magazine too!
