I'll bet you all have seen that awesome photo of the Salmon River Ice Circle. It's circulation online has really exploded in the past week. We got real curious about the picture and have spent a big chunk of the last two days writing a story about it and the photographer.
Now, yeah, I know that technically this doesn't really have anything strictly to do with fishing. However, I know that everyone reading this loves everything about Idaho rivers and all the seasons and weird stuff and so forth that we see on rivers and especially The Salmon River. So I figured it might be OK to let you know about this story here on BFT.
Besides, the guy who took the picture is a steelhead guide and one heck of a chukar hunter so that adds some bonus points. In fact, I think his chukar blog is one of the best I've ever read but that's not about fishing so forget I said it.
Anyway, I know that people here play real close attention to river eddies and water flow and behavior and that's really what this article is about. It seems certain eddies behave unlike other eddies, at least when it comes to making ice circles. Now, it's actually got me wondering if those eddies fish better than other eddies--it's something I forgot to ask him. Hum...
Anyway, here's the story for your entertainment:
