Was reunited with my sweet Goldie today! Of course, she has grown about a foot since I mistakenly flushed her for dead...

Dang, that's a nice one. There were a whole bunch of goldfish in Salem Pond, and I decided one year that it was my goal to catch one on the fly. They're tough to catch. I finally managed one, but it took a lot of work and weeding through several hundred bluegill and green sunfish to accomplish my goal. That looks like fun, I've yet to make it out this year. Cache is frigid this year.

Very cool. There are a couple in my area, but have yet to hook one on a fly. Great Job. What fly?

I was surpirsed at how finicky and spooky these guys are compared to carp. Kind of reminds me of trying to catch those creepy albino trout in the community ponds.

I spent 6 years in Cache Valley. I do really miss a lot of things about it. But the cold winters are not one of them!!

That first one was on a tiny (18 or 20) Hare's Ear.

But I went back to the same spot on Saturday and finally used one of the crayfish flies I've had in my box for years, but never think about. I like the crayfish. Got me another Goldie and a couple decent sized carp too.

That is quite the behemoth. The one I finally caught was probably under 8". Nice work!

Yeah, Cache is beautiful, safe, and not too crowded, but this winter was pretty brutal. I just hope that the summer is nice enough to counterbalance it.

Need to learn the ways of the ice . . . you'd appreciate those frigid temps in a whole new way.
Gott me and the boy a good set of sunburns at the Big Bear last weekend. Didn't catch much else, but . . .

Same notion as floating the surface, you're just walking it.

I found the basic feeder goldfish grew faster, and even overwintered better than the Koi. The Koi could - would - get bigger, but the basic Goldies did pretty good.

Fun catching. Seen some cruising a local CP nearby. They'll probably give it a fresh bow-stocking before too long.
Do I smell spring coming?
Yeah, maybe one of these years. I did get a nice little sunburn on Saturday soaking in the hot pots in Lava. That sun was very much needed.

Is that a grass carp? I've never seen one before. It looks a lot thinner than the ones I seem to get. Could just be that I'm catching all the fat lazy ones though...

Really wanting to get out this week, but I've been hit again by the &$^@# flu. Hopefully Saturday, will let you know!

No on the Grass Carp...they have more pointed noses. This is normal for me. It was a little over 30" long, I think the net might be causing an illusion.
I have caught shorter stubbier though
