This weekend just had to get a little fishy without the cabin fever and get back to regular fishing, fly fishing, and especially get the float tube of death out of the garage for the first time since the last great trip in November at East canyon.
First on Saturday I decided to hit the Jordan River to see if the place is coming from the dead yet got at my spots around 11 am. Just tossed out some heavy sinkers and a big juicy worm. In matter of minutes they started hitting but the hit were basically one slap and leave for a little bit then come back. When I set the first fish on gosh it was some monster fish but
ly it came undone. After tossing back out there in the same spot it was some little slaps but nothing special. Later some nice old guy started talking to me and told me some of hit Jordan River stories that in the hole I was fishing in he have saw HUGE catfish. It was disappointing to have that fish undone. Could of been that big catfish or maybe just maybe a carp. Well after hours waiting to try setting that monster fish it was time to move to my other spots. Hit on of my other spots tossed my amazing combo and slammed into a 20" Sucker. Took a few picture and released him safely. In the same spot I had a huge carp on but it got off
ly. It was getting late so I had one more spot in mind head to the other spot and had many small nibbles but nothing to hook up.
The 2" catfish would hit harder at night then these big fish
ly.
Sunday morning woke up way late and felt slow at the beginning but after seeing fish swimming in my head I had to hit af with THE FLOAT TUBE OF DEATH. Yes I did go in my float tube. I was surprised the water was warmer then in November at East canyon. In East canyon I had to get out of the water to warm up my legs but at tibble there was no problem. Slayed about 15-20 bows most of them were 10-12" and one 14". The best part of the day is when parents are so stupid that they take there kids on the thin ice to take some rock out of the ice and then toss them on the ice but it was pretty entertaining when one of the adults fell through the 1" ice.
Now the sign on the lake about the ice danger is true now. I broke the ice with my float tube trying to get a little break of paddling in the wind and get on top of some ice to stay put for a bit. Caught most of my fish on black woolly bugger, 2 on chartreuse woolly bugger. I just wish I could of took the amazing picture of the double fish that I had on on on the black woolly and one on the chartreuse woolly but
ly the chartreuse fish decide to leave a little earlier
Ice is really safe to ice fish on still nock your self out before its gone. 97.5% of open water.
When the fishing at the lake slow down big time I hit the AF river a for 30 min -1 hr caught 3 dinker bows but gosh the colors to them were amazing. I just wish I had a better camera on me because it was mind blowing for how colorful they were comparing to the spawning color bows at the lake. Caught 2 on egg patter and one on a black gnat.
Amazing fishing weekend to get away from the cabin for once. I hope the ice will melt faster. Would love to fish at the berry and east canyon on ice off.
