It's not the website, it's your browser. You didn't say what browser you're using but the smart money would bet on Internet Exploder.

If you switch to Firefox or Chrome and add-in AdBlock Plus, your popup frustrations will end abruptly and forever.

As I've said before, the website has every right to sell ads to support the costs of keeping the place open. But none of us are obligated to view them.

I've seen threads about this, what is the deal? I never have pop-ups, never have videos playing, I do like the scantily clad women that occasionally show up but it's no worse than a sink full of largemouth with a fillet knife on top of them [cool]

No mater what I use I don't like pop ups of any thing and don't use sites that do..[mad]

We don't want POP UPS on a fishing site..

Bassrods if its that bad and annoying, which it would be to me. I'm sure you know or know of a younger guy or gal who is maybe more computer savvy then you and you should have them come check out you settings. A lot of computer/technology has many settings to both annoy and convenient the user, they're just sometimes not quick finds on programs. I would offer my assistance except I have a brother and brother in laws that are pretty amazing on computers. If you can't find a solution pm me and I'll talk to one of them and walk you through it or have them walk you through it if its that bad..

Really? If you didn't want help than why bother starting a thread? Send a pm to a moderator.

I was in hopes that any others that may be having the same thing happen would speak up so the mods could end the thing..

Every one has there own program that they like, I have some on mine but not looking for any more just want the pop ups to go away.. And since I posted about it I have not had this happen again..
[signature]
I guess this is kind of a miss understanding on my part and on his and yours..I was not looking for programs to put on my computer..

I was trying to let the mods know that the pop ups was back and so any others could do the same..

Clifford, I have three computers that I use to log onto BFT. On one of them I only have Internet Explorer and I have almost quit using that computer to log onto BFT, because I get so frustrated. On the other two I just log on using Firefox with the ads blocked. Logging onto BFT using Firefox isn't perfect, but it is vastly superior to using Internet Explorer. Firefox is free and you were offered free help. The ads aren't going away and it is just a matter of time before you are back on complaining about the ads again (you have made similar posts many times in the past). If you keep doing the same things and expect different results maybe you should rethink the situation. It is a little painful learning new tricks and new software, but sometimes a little pain is worth the effort.

Bassrods, if you getting popups when you click on links your browser could be be what we call "Hi-Jacked"

Hi-Jacking is a common mal-ware program were your Internet Browser to automatically redirects and open a another browser "pop-up" to a different site.

Mal-Ware & Hi-Jacking can be from any number of sites if your getting a Hockey Popup did you recently visit a site about Hockey or play a video game that contains Hockey ? The Malware is imbedding into the programming of the game or website. These sites usually ask you if you want to install additional software to finish loading the site. Most people inadvertently click yes and Thats when the site loads the malware. [mad]

Download a program called Malware Bytes its free and will get rid of most Malware. Also Get a program callled CCleaner ( also free ) it will delete your temp and caches files basically were your computer stores Malware & Spyware.

lastly as mention eailier get away from early versions of Internet Explorer ( I.E) Oder Versions of IE are more prone to Virus, malware and spyware. Upgrade to version IE 8 or switch to Firefox or Google Chrome.

No I haven't been to any sites like that, but sense I posted about the pop ups they have not happen again..

Hi Cliff. As a IT guy, I deal with stuff like this every day. What the "end user" really hates to hear is that pop-ups, malware, etc. all typically come from their own bad habits. Whether you believe this or not is up to you, but you get this kind of garbage due to your own actions on the internet. Your browsing habits make a huge impact on your browsing experience. Downloading different plug-ins without paying close attention to the installations typically results in unwanted software being loaded on your computer. Programmers are tricky and they will attempt to get things past you. Just look at Adobe Flash -- install it quickly without carefully looking at the installer and next thing you know you have Google Chrome installed along with additional Google toolbars. Did you really want that installed?

Basicaly, whether you know it or not, YOU installed some stuff on your computer and now you're getting a hockey game popping up on you.

Now -- let's fix it:

1. Open up your Programs listing in the Control Panel and read through the list. Look for programs that you do not want: Hockey game, Ask Toolbar, Yahoo Toolbar, Google Toolbar (how many toolbars do you really need??), Coupon Saver, etc., etc.

2. Uninstall those programs you find that you don't want. If you don't know what the program is, Google it and find out. If you find it is something you don't need, uninstall it.

3. Disable Add-ins and Plug-ins that you don't want. (Google it if you don't know how).

4. Like others have mentioned, try a new web browser. I love FireFox. I use it for all of my general web-browsing, and leave IE (I'm using IE10) for my "work" stuff (work intranet sites). Further, if I find a site that doesn't seem to be working correctly in FireFox, then i'll try it in IE to see if it is a browser related issue.

5. If you don't have Microsoft Security Essentials installed and updated on your computer, I would recommend that you go get it right now. It is free. It is very good. It is NOT perfect -- but none of them are. Here at work we utilize both MS Security Essentials and Trend Micro in tandem. Together, they seem to do a pretty good job of keep "garbage" out.

6. Lastly, take a good look at your browsing habits. If you seem to be having a lot of issues on the internet, then chances are very good that one or more of the sites you frequent is giving you garbage programs. It might be time to stop visiting some of those sites. Game sites are pretty notorious for this. Try to limit the sites that you frequent.

If you need more help, I'd be more than happy to do what I can to give you a hand. Send me a pm, email me, call me....I don't care. Let me know if I can be some help to you.
