Took the snowmobiles up to the berry and went west of the south entrance to the narrows. Had a ton of bites but only landed 9. All rainbows but 1. We were in about 18 feet of water. The ice was 2 feet thick and a little slush here and there but not bad. I had all my hits on a white jig tipped with a wax worm. Other tent was using power bait.

Sounds like a fun day. I fished most the day over by the ladders. Once I figured out a little white gulp minnow with wax worms was the trick, I landed 8 or 9 as well, but all cutts with 1 16 inch fatty fat bow. Two 19 inc cutts one skinny one fat that was a blast to land on light line and reel. I caught a couple drinker bows by shore earlier. Fished 8-4, all the cuts were deeper down once I moved away from shore. Any tips on targeting bows? From what I can guess they aren't as deep?

The berry is a blast! I fished it today (3-10-13) and landed 3 nice cutthroats 18"-20" all with decent body girth. adam19, I second the thrill when a fish is landed on light rig and line. I fished a light rod with 4lb. test. I thought there might be a benefit to having a rig with a small rattler to act as an attractant to pull fish closer in and then I would switch to a medium strength rod once I saw them on the flasher. Lo and beyond I got a immediate strike strike and quickly moved to set hook and reel in. I was sweating it a little bit though with the extent the rod was bending, probably still had ample backbone though. I pulled up a 20" cutt. Opposite to my to my hook set was another lure and hook. Green crawdad type with some free line still attached. I removed both hooks, added a lure to my tackle and let the fish gather back it senses before releasing it down the hole. Plenty of bites and a few missed landings, all in all a great time!
