I drove by Friday afternoon on the Hwy 28 side and it was still shore to shore ice with water around the edges. The ice was green from the snow melting on top. Supposed to be low to mid 60's down here by mid-week, so it won't be long.

I have not seen the lake, but I would bet that this weekend is to early. You might be able to get in the water, but will be limited to where you can go. I would call the main office down there on friday and get an update. The office is right at the oasis boat ramp. Their number is on the state parks web page

Oasis side ice always retreats earlier than Painted Rocks side. I haven't seen Oasis side but Painted Rocks side will not be free of ice this weekend.
A few years ago like 5 or 6 I saw some guys getting their boats wet on their maiden voyage for the year on Yuba.
Ice line was about half way from the launch and where it narrows to "Walleye Point?" I think Walleye Point. Anyway guys opening thier motors up and creating wakes all over busting ice. About the 3rd or 4th pass one of them put a pretty good gash in their hull from the ice they broke up. What's worse, about 30 minutes or so later, another boat bashed through the ice as well......never heard about or saw the damage on his boat, but it sure didn't sound good.
So be careful eitherway and don't make the same mistake they did.

THANKS!! for the update.
I called the number several times myself it's a lovely recording. At a time when 99% of all callers are inquiring about the Ice you would think they might give you one sentence in the recording with some information about it. Hint, Hint, Hint

I was driving up I-15 and decided to take a quick rest stop and check Yuba out.
I drove all the way along the West side to Oasis and did not see any ice on the lake. I've never been there that close to ice off and the water is shockingly clear (10' visibility).
Two fishermen were in a boat at the NW corner of the lake already chucking the shallows for the Pike.
Two other groups were down by the dam shore fishing.

I did go today at 1pm and fishing was slow i had one follower and my son had one hook up but it got off .There was a couple of guys on the other side of the dam and they seemed to have caught one couldnt really tellwhat it was because they were kinda far away. Weather temp dropped really quick and i started getting ice on rod guides so i ended up staying an hour or so maybe thats why the bite was off.Gonna try to go on Sunday and give it another try hopefully next weekend the weather has stabilized a bit.

Went out today and the weather was beautiful but the fishing was bad i got one bite on an anchovie and none on lures. There were several people there and only one pike caught . Everyone started leaving around noonish. Hopefully with consistent good weather the fishing will get better.

I usually fish for tigers in Newton and Pineview.
Is there any chance of hooking up with Pike at Yuba from shore? If so any pointers or tips would be great i have never been down there.
Thanks very much

Oh yeah some of the bigger ones have been caught by the oasis campgrounds. Right time right spot and you can catch them. Right now they seem to be a bit deeper I would give it a few weeks if you are traveling far . I am taking my boat out in a few weeks hopefully temps are better by then .
