Well, thanks to logan city, the best brown trout fishing in cache valley has now been totally destroyed. i am talking about the stretch of river near 10th and 6th west. The area used to be filled with log jams and dozens of very deep holes, oh and big browns. The river is now simply blowing through there at 20mph, hardly making a single pool.
I understand the issue with dead fall plugging up the bridges but from the looks of things, I would say they have really stepped over thier bounds. The Army Corps of Engineers says the river channel has to remain intact, I don't see how they justify what has been done. Boo-Hoo
I wish they could have just trimmed some trees without pulling every treestump out of the riverbed. I suppose is really doesnt matter anyways since the entire river gets drawn out into the canals every summer.

?
Walk across the road then
There is plenty of areas they have not started on!

It's not like they poisoned it. The fish are still there. I think it is a good thing. They opened it up and got more flow. This is going to make more and better spawning beds. You'll be surprised how fast those willows will grow back. I fish a section of a river where there are ten plus pounds browns and there are NO trees. Don't be foolish, just find a new way to fish for them
Maybe it will make better habitat for cutthroats, like what was in there historically.

Happens allot this time of the year, Engineers have to anticipate the spring run off and clear out the waterways to avoid overflow.
To be honest with you Ive had some great fishing during the run off you just got put in the work and find the areas were the fish are holding.

What's that saying? "Adapt to change or go extinct." I've fished that river for 40 years, especially that stretch, and after every high runoff the holes changed or moved completely. It can be challenging, but isn't that part of the fun. The only down side I see is it will be more accessable for the lazy harvester.

20 years ago they had D9 Cats in the Provo River from the mouth of the canyon all the way to I15. They made one big channel out of it to prevent the flooding that we had in the early 80's.
Since then, the river has rebuilt the eddies and holes, new boulders have been deposited, and it is pretty much back to where it was before the channelization.
It wasn't pretty, it sucked for a couple of years, but eventually it healed. So will the Logan. This is not the first time that they have done it and will not be the last !!!
i saw the same thing I have fished that river for 25 years.. thanks for killing it.. im gona out on a limb and say that the dwr had a lot to do with this,, manage skitteers and coons then there would be a lot less of those...cant stand the dwr,,got their degree out of a crackerjack box,.,.,.,.,.,.any you ever wonder why we have bucket bios,,,, put 2 and 2 togerher,,thanks for messing up my river,, logs and browns go together,,,

They pushed a lot of stuff around before east of 6th w - they made the whole river-walk trail, and the parking area. The river still flows.
Last spring was a maniac runoff. They've done a bunch of 'enhancements' with culverts, and additional pipeworks under the roads. I think it actually makes a few different fishing holes to tinker with.
But what I've seen may shift and open the initial flow (as intended) the fish will adapt, more woodwork and other debris will come down and form new structure. The water seems pretty clear already.
Educate yourself,,
Or better yet , read the posts below the thread,
The DWR , had nothing to do with it. It was Logan city.
And it takes an act of congress to achieve such a feat.
There are plenty of biologist and environmentalists down there making sure the trackhoes don't stay to long in the water.
And the word re·tard 1 (r-tärd)
v. re·tard·ed, re·tard·ing, re·tards
v.tr.
To cause to move or proceed slowly; delay or impede.
v.intr.
To be delayed.

2. Music A slackening of tempo.

I hope, for your benefit, that "what goes around comes around" doesn't happen to you. Being the parent of a daughter, whom could be referred to as "retarded", I take great offense to the use of the term "retards", in an attempt to put people down. I am sure that many of the DWR employees would be more than happy to have you pay for their student loans to pay for their "crackerjack box" education. Grow up.

Looks like I need to start wearing my Spread the Word t-shirt more often. People just keep using that term. I'm always disappointed to hear coworkers saying it because I work at a hospital and you would expect better from people that are supposed to be caring individuals. [:/]

As has been stated they have done flood control work on many rivers. My favorite stretch of the weber was also cleaned out for flood control many years ago. I was fishing a stretch and the water started getting muddy and I could hear a diesel engine. There was a CAT in the water upstream. The river recoverd just fine and that stretch of the river has as many fish as before. I just cant fish it anymore because it flows through private property and the new owners decided they didnt want fishermen to use it.[mad]

They're in there, just tough to catch. I don't catch them very often.
I don't usually carry a camera or think to take a picture when I am alone.
