What kind of bait are you guys using for catching, not snagging, walleye? I've heard bright or neon curly tails in 3"-4" is not bad... but I really have no clue. How heavy of a jig head? I'm assuming 3/8? I've even seen pics of people catchin them with rapalas.

You are right with the curly tails. Use a 1/16 oz head, the heaviest a 1/8th. The light ones sink just as good and tend to stay out of the rocks. I dont go as heavy as 3/8 untill i start chuckin swimbaits and really cookin right above the bottom.

if you are going to the inlet at Willard. and the gates are open you may need something heavy like the 3/8 but I normally use a 1/8 jig head with white or [#000000]Chartreuse[/#000000] curly tail 2 to 3" . yesterday the water was running fast and furious. I could not get down to the fish. seen lots of guys rigging double jigs. but I've found that you snag more fish then catch at way. they were snagging a lot but thanks to the signs and DWR making the public more aware all the fish I seen snagged were released.

Went to Utah Lake. I have wanted to try Willard, but I live in Sandy so UL is a lot more time efficient. I used a white and a brown curly tail - got NOTHIN! Luckily I found something that worked. I got 1 bite and landed it 22" 5 lbs. Pretty fun for my first walleye! Thanks for the responses guys.

What was it that worked?

I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's called a sonic bait or something like that. I originally got it for the white bass down there. It was the only bright lure I had on me. I'll include a pic.
