This is Jonathan the Park Manager at Scofield State Park.

Wanted to update everyone about the ice conditions at Scofield.

I am currently sitting at the Mtn. View boat ramp and it appears that the lake level has risen a few feet so far this spring. The shore that has been exposed due to that rise is open water. Here at Mtn View there is only 5-10 feet of open water. Near the other boat ramp at Madsen Bay there is 50-100 feet of open water. Shallower water means more open water.

There were 6 fishermen tonight at Madsen Bay and they had numerous bites, but didn't land any fish.

We have opened all the gates to our park here, so access is open to the campgrounds and the boat ramps.

Have Fun and Good Luck.

Jonathan thanks for taking the time to send an update. I'm sure everyone is chomping at the bit for some good ice off fishing.

Thank you very much for the pro-active and courteous information. Kind of a breath of fresh air compared to most info recieved by us fishermen. Currently I don't care a bunch about Scofield, but this kind of spot-on info on other waters would be much appreciated.
What does the ice-off on Yankee Meadow Reservoir look like? Thanks anyway.

Thanks for the update.

I went today and saw what you were talking about. With the wind, a lot more opened up throughout the day.

Scofield has enough open water to fish off the hump[s in the dam arm. One small open window at the dam near the spill. I broke some ice just off the hill by the dam on the north side.

There's a lot of open water around Fish Creek and the south end, but most is super shallow. Walking to the steep hillside would be the best bet around there. The other public access points along the south end are too shallow to do much, although there's plenty of room for a float.

Madsen Bay has some open water and people were reportedly doing alright there today for dinks and a 17inch brown (so says the CO that checked me). The fee kept me out.

The fishing in the dam arm was awful (two 15" tigers and a 13" rainbow, all skinny) and the wind was about 30-40mph and cold. Rain came later.
