Hey guys just wanted a bit of direction I live in Utah but have recently been put in a new position with my work that brings me to Idaho and I'm gonna be in Idaho Falls for a few days. What kind of fish should I target and just a general area to start .

Go South Fork my boy, go South Fork!

Good deal thanks for the reply. Anything good fishing on the Snake there in town or close. And what kind of fish ?

Potential for some big fish in the town section and north of there to the county line road. Only issue is the learning curve how to fish it and where. Its fairly big water. South fork up around Heisie hot springs and down around twin bridges area should be fishing well right now.

Mostly Trout . Browns , Cutthrought , and Rainbows . There is no limit on Rainbows on the South Fork of the Snake . They want you to keep all you catch , to help the Cutthrought . It is running low and very clear . Curt G.

Thanks for the insight guys! I think I'll give south fork a try. I fished right there by the Falls about 3 weeks ago but nothing doing. Saw a guy with a big 25 inch brown.

Hey don't forget the Fly Tying expo at the Shilo this Fri. and Sat. Come by and say hi.

The Snake there in town and below has Smallmouth too.

But as has been said this is prime time to wade fish the South Fork.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

You can also fish the Shelley Pond, it's right next to the river, between Shelley and the south I-15 onramp. You can park and walk between the pond and the river, down to the end where the water flows in. Makes a good little place to get them next to the river flows. We've hooked some nice bass, and found quite a few lures when the water went down a few years ago.

I did not know there where bass in the shelley area are they in the pond or river

The bass are in the Snake, someone on here said some have been caught clear up to St Anthony, I think. The pond is a gravel pit that the river flooded into, so it is calmer than the river but the water constantly- flows in and out. We took a little aluminum boat in it once and threw lures into the willows and caught a bass that broke off on me, and caught a couple where the pond and river connect.

Good to know about the bass that's my favorite species.
We ended up fishing the South and North Fork. South had so much free floating moss/green weedy crap that you literally couldn't get a cast in the water for more than 2 seconds without it being smothered with that stuff. So we went to North Fork. Much better no moss and the browns were willing to eat our offerings . I caught a few in the hour we were there and my buddy caught 4. Curlys lures and a curly tail grub were the ticket, no particular color. Thanks guys for your input, great to have such good resources !

I fished a portion of the Snake over by Shelly. One of the diversion dams. I was fly fishing a Chironomid under an indicator. I hooked what I thought a snag, and when I started to pull a little harder it started moving. Got it to the surface enough to notice the back. A bronze back. Landed it and it was a nice 19" smallmouth. I was told Idaho is putting bass in the snake. But this was a nice surprise.
