I am determined to get a pike on the fly this year and have heard Yuba is the place to do it. I have done plenty of research and know, generally, what kinda structure to look for, flies to use, etc. However, I am not familiar with Yuba reservoir at all. I will be fishing from shore (wading) which will of course make it difficult, but one pike and I will be happy.
What area of the lake should I focus on? Again I am fishing from shore so it will make things difficult. I just want to make sure I am not stumbling around on private ground and that I have a decent chance at a pike.

Been down there quite a bit in the last 3 weeks. We have been doing very well for them on the fly. The fish are in the shallows finishing up their spawn so they are very accessible. The best bite has been on days that reach 60 degrees plus. Don't bother fishing it before noon. The best bite for us has been from 1-5. We have been throwing perch imitating streamers. If it's cloudy fish dark colors if it's sunny fish dark and bright colors. The best bet for finding larger numbers of pike are in the back of the bays where there is submerged vegetation and stickups. You want to fish structure and water that is 2-5 feet deep. We have been catching them in under a foot of water sight casting to them. Good Luck!

Stay on the part of the lake by the west beach area. Move around and work a lot of water.

Everything boowill said is right on. A few weeks ago we caught a few along the shore between oaisis launch and the bridge. You don't need a boat to fish that area.
Good luck

If you like catching PIKE at YUBA do MAKE SURE to email or contact the DNR(central region) to let them know you LOVE catching PIKE at YUBA and that you want to ensure the pike fishery is protected due to some current talk of changes...there is a draft "on the table" (I have read it and they met about it last night) currently that will eliminate many of the pike and change it into a walleye fishery again - which has always had a boom and bust cycle. Let's not fight the great TROPHY PIKE fishery that nature is giving us in YUBA - let's instead protect and nurture it!
Where else in Utah can you go and have a good chance at catching at 38"+ pike on any given day? NO WHERE - that is why it is SOOOO IMPORTANT that this PIKE fishery is protected!
PROTECT THE PIKE IN YUBA!! If you don't - who will?

Can't it be both a pike and walleye fishery? Many lakes (not in Utah) support both, if there is enough food. A healthy forage base is the answer...

we really missed you on wednesday night. I think you had something to bring to the table which was set for you and you fail to show even though the meeting was change for you to attend. Yuba is a great resource, we just all need to work to make it better and more responsive to ALL the people who use it or who want to use it. Perhaps you can attend the next meeting and put forth your ideas!!
