I saw that fish finder on universal mania. Very nice and price is much cheaper than bass pro. Do you know if the transducer usually is included with it or do I have to buy it separate. I probably have to buy the lakemaster or navionics program for it also. I'm not sure. I don't mind spending some money on a good fishfinder I just don't what else I have to buy to make it right

It's all in the box and from what I have read on other forums Universal Mania is a reliable internet souce for products with no complaints.
The only thing that doesn't come with Humminbirds is a inline fuse for wiring it. Plus some people prefer a different style of mount verse what it comes with. Also depending on what style of boat you have you may or may not have to go with a additional transducer for shooting through the hull on fiberglass boats for 2d on plane depth readings.
Lots of info here:

For out here there is only one choice. Navionics. Lakemaster doesn't cover too many lakes on the West coast yet.
Off the UM website at the bottom of the description of the 1198 they are selling for that great price:

Universal mania is great! No sales tax. Saved a bundle. I went with the lowrance hds gen 2 touch. I got the navionics upgrade and still less than the same at bass pro. I didn't buy the back bone yet but that will be next.

I too have a question about fish finder's. My boat came set up with a Lowrance x37 fishfinder. I know its the very basic of fish finders. It is 6 years old. It would not power up this last trip. I haven't checked the fuse yet. If it is the fishfinder finally crapping out, if I buy a new one can I just hook it up to the existing wires and use the set up that is already there. Or completely remove the whole old system and replace with all new stuff not just the fishfinder itself.
