Way to release the beast! I can promise I'll release any fish like that that I catch! It's a shame that people complain about certain invasive species and in Utah Lakes particular case, all fish except the June Sucker are invasive species but it's really only carp that are hated. Fishing's always been good at Utah Lake, the Jordan River, Deer Creek and other places where carp are at. Yet everyone always is talking about how carp ruin everything...I don't think so, I think June Suckers are weak and that's all. Always have been able to catch other species of fish in these places besides Carp.

I officially proclaim myself.....a carphater! There's no fishery in Utah that wouldn't be better without them.

Carps suck!!!!

The fisheries would of been better if they knew what disaster the carp would of created.

I can't believe the pioneers back in 1800 didn't realize that carp would ruin our sport fishing waters in 2013![Image: happy.gif]

Yep oh well looks like I will be tossing sever open carps back into the waters just for the white bass and cat fish too eat them.

I'm not "blaming" the pioneers, they knew nothing about conservation or invasive species.

i say grab a flyrod and take advantage of a great fight and a great challenge, carp are very fun on a flyrod and a fun challenge.[Image: carp_on_pink_waun.jpg]

Agreed. Just make sure you "ventilate" them with a sharp knife before releasing them.

I don't have any soft spot for carp like the man in the article. I do provide free "gillectomies," as TD would put it. Carp are bad for the fishery so I always remove them.

That said, they sure are fun to catch!

This one went 17lbs, Lake Mead

When was the last time anyone tried to eat a carp? When was the last time anyone mounted one on their wall? I'd rather catch a fish I can eat, or at least stand to look at.

I'm with you on this............Yep all carp should be released just like TD says...[crazy][sly]

I agree carp are very good....... sliced into golf ball sized chunks and used for catfish bait!

In Europe, Carp are a prized game fish. People take trips t specialized areas to fish for large carp, catch and release. We are the only country that does not utilize carp as a major source of protein, and they grow them as a cash crop. We view them as trash fish , but the rest of the world utilizes them. I am not a big fan of carp, feel that many of our fisheries would be better off without them, but they are fun to catch. Catch one on 4lb line that goes in excess of 10lbs, quite the fight !!
I am not a carp lover but there are those that like to catch them. I think we could definitely do with a lot less of them

Until you actually try to catch one[laugh] I say a lot of people are C&R and for that reason carp are a blast.

I'm honestly sorry if I come across like a a$$ because I'm trying to be civil but that said, lots of people bug me. I just hate how people treat fish and things like a game. This hole trash fish label that Carp have is totally ridiculous. Basically the way peoples minds work is that anything they can't eat is a P.O.S. Screw anything that isn't edible or just taste like garbage. Then many of you only want certain species of fish in certain bodyies[reply][reply][/reply][/reply] of water(which is fine but our reasoning/ethics aren't correct). Even though some moron one of us is the one who put say white bass or mud cats in Deer Creek, as fisherman most of you don't care what means go into getting that invasive species out.

All you care about is getting the water back to only containing the species of fish you want it to. It's our fault we put the things in the lake or wherever in the first place but who gives a crap? Lets just poison the whole thing, shock the whole lake,and/or require everyone to kill the undesirable fish. Let's not use a live-well or something like that although it was completely our fault in the first place. It's just a joke to me how we treat all of these invasive species cases like a game. It's just a corrupt business.

You aren't going to see me cry if you keep or kill a fish it just angers me at people's reasoning and logic. I wouldn't even mind it so much if people just said "I kept 4 carp today to use as fertilizer". One time Last year, someone found me apparently fishing somewhere that they drilled an entrance to. Anyway, he was a nice guy and in his presence I did catch a carp. I was about to put it back like normal but he actually asked if he could have it. Later he caught a mud cat and kept it as well. He said he feeds his cat Carp and Mud Cats if he catches them. Although I am curious about how crazy his cat is, at least the reason was more acceptable to me about why he kept it. It wasn't the traditional stupid " oh they're a p.o.s, you can't them". But yeah, our treating everything as a game thing annoys the hell out of me. Whatever, I guess some most people have some OCPD(Over compulsive personality disorder).

Which is exactly what drives me nuts about people. Only good if it suits their needs or wants. Oh and for the record, I'm not claiming they're goregous or anything but I think lots of carp look really cool. In all honesty, I think they actually look prettier than that one we're spending millions of dollars on *cough June Sucker.

Carp aren't good for anything? What good are cutties, bookies, raindbows, catfish, wall eye, tiger muskies, and more good for? Oh that's right...for you to eat LOL! That's the only difference between Carp and other fish.

I have caught one before. I was using 8 lb test line and ended up having a good 15 minute fight. It was fun.

I don't fish for carp but yes, it does bother me some to see how they get treated. I do released every carp unharmed even though I don't particularly like them, they are still a living creature and if I'm not going to eat it or utilize it, I'm gonna turn it loose. On utah lake too. They don't hurt nothing there as far as I'm concerned anyway.
