Help me out - what's the Willard Spur?
Don't have a hoard of cat-experience down that-a-ways, but I'd expect any shallows, or up into the rocky crags would be a good location to track them this time of year.
Had an early season camping trip to the N. Marina a couple years back, and with the wind/waves - seemed like an ideal time to nab into the sping melt-off and getting onto winter dye off of shad. Was windy as heck, but that probably helped.

Willard Spur is the marsh North and West of Willard Bay.

Here are a couple of papers. One is an undergraduate senior thesis by a class mate of mine, and one is a report from biologist Chris Penne of the DWR. They've done a couple fish surveys out there and from the data there are a few bullheads but only one channel cat has shown up in their surveys and all of the catfish were awfully close to the outlet of Willard Bay. Looks like the stuff way out in the spur only holds carp and chub.

Hey, how do you get out to the Spur without a boat.
Do you walk the willard dike from the North Marina?
Do you walk the dike around Harold Crane?
Just Curious

[cool][#0000FF]I am attaching a map of the north marina area. The channel you seek is #7 on that map. There is a road that cuts off to the north just before you pull into the north marina area. Follow it around to a parking area along the channel. Popular with airboat launchers during duck season. Also popular with folks who catch wipers, walleyes, cats and crappies from below the spillway/outlet. Great for carp shooting soon.

Much of the spur will be completely dry by about early July. The duck hunting out there is very good if you have the right equipment. The reason the hunting is good is because it dries out and plants grow with some little seed pods on them. Then when it floods the ducks have a pretty good area to rest and can forage on the seed pods.
There are some channels that I would bet will hold fish, but you have to know where they are, and I aint talkin' [
