Full Version: Tilapia as bait.

My wife's family raised fish back in the day, 15-20 years ago. They raised catfish and tilapia. The catfish are long gone, but one of their ponds still has a healthy population of tilapia. Most are in the 3 inch range, with a few that would push 6 inches. I know, monsters, they haven't been fed or cared for in any way in at least 15 years.

Would these make suitable bait for catfish? Or anything else? I know I can't use them live, but as cut or whole(dead).

I don't know why they wouldn't be good for bait. In my opinion fresh bait is the best. If you can go get them kill them and use them in the same day that should be awesome. I would use them as cut bait for channels. I would use them whole for Flatheads. Ron

Thanks Ron. I will try a few this weekend. Hopefully I'll have some pictures to share.
