Bear Lake Fishing Report:

Bear Lake is totally open water at this time and boats can be launched and the Utah State Park Marina, 1st Point, Cisco Beach, and Rainbow Cove boat ramps. Surface water temperature is 38F. Biologists have been pulling gill nets on Bear Lake this week and they have spoken with several anglers. Shoreline anglers casting spoons in the morning off the Utah State Park marina and off Cisco Beach have been doing well for cutthroat trout. Fish are averaging between 3 to 7 lbs! Gill nets have caught cutthroat trout at depths from 15’ to 175’ of water, but the shallow depths along the shoreline have produced more and larger fish. Anglers are doing well for cutthroat trout by trolling minnow-type lures in 10-40’ of water near the Utah State Park marina-rockpiles north towards the UT-ID stateline. Also, anglers are trolling on the east side from 1st Point north to the South Eden delta in the same depth of water with the same type of lures. Consider releasing some of the big pre-spawn cutthroat trout so they can spawn in the tributaries this spring. Remember, in order to keep a cutthroat trout from Bear Lake it must have a healed fin clip (usually the adipose fin). Cutthroat trout with all fins intact have to be released. Lake trout fishing has been fair in 90-100’ of water off Gus Rich point using large flatfish and rapalas off downriggers.

Garden City Community Fishery Pond
Water has been drained for repairs on the pond. Once repaired it will be filled and stocked with sterile rainbow trout.

Laketown Reservoir
Ice is melted and reservoir is full. Rainbow fishing has been good using small spinners and wooly bugger flys. Also try power bait, worms and marshmallows.

Thanks for the lake update Scott. Question, what happened to the Garden City Community Fishery Pond
that required it to be drained so quickly after it just opened last year?
