I just moved to Logan to finish my schooling at USU. I would really like to find some good areas to fish up here since I am from down Utah and Sanpete county and have never fished in the area. I have five game fish that I have to knock of my list before I have caught all the game fish in Utah. The list is Kokanee, Wiper, Striper, Golden Trout, and Tiger Muskie. I am looking to fill the Kokanee, Wiper, and Tiger Muskie this season. I I know where I have to go to get Tiger Muskie and Wiper but I do not know if there is a close lake up here in Cache Valley to get a Kokanee.

They aren't huge, but Porcupine has your kokanee.

Hey Lil Fish you're in a good spot for fishen, hope it's not too tough on your study habits. Hyrum dam is good for bows, has perch and bass and other stuff but they don't show up as often. Bear lake is close for nice Mac and Cutts. The canyons can be great fly fishing and southern Idaho has a bunch of nice reservoirs close by. Plus Porcupine (the pig) and Cutler / Bear River and Newton and you've hardly left the valley. Mantua and Willard are also close so plan on more to do than you'll have time for. Welcome to town. But - IF you wanna go fossil hunting! But yeah "The Pig" is the only Koke hole nearby. Unless you're running to Flaming Gorge.

As Ma sez (and she knows) there's a lot of good puddles and rivers around. You've got Newton to the north, Hyrum and Porcupine south. Mantua to the west. Then there's the whole Cutler marsh reservoir. Not too much farther you'll find Willard Bay, or up to Pineview. Up the Logan canyon you can get to Bear Lake. THAT's some big water!

There's a couple community ponds, tiny Skylar's by Willow Park, then the Wellsville pond.

Newton, Hyrum, and Mantua all have bass, perch, bluegill. Hyrum is a trout lake, Mantua has some nice trout too. Newton also has the Tiger Musky, and Crappie. The Musky are all C&R mandatory, handle with care.

Trout rivers like Logan, Blacksmith fork - you can find Rainbows, Browns, Cutthroat. There's Whitefish too.
Each of the dams on the Logan offers good access, and plenty of fishing company.

For more warm water fishing - the Bear river has it all, as Ma sez. If you can get out and float - Cutler has a lot of acreage, and a lot of fish variety, if you can find them. Sometimes you get stuck with Mudcats and Carp, but truly - there's a plethora of fish varieties out there - rivals Utah Lake IMHO.

I finally tapped into some nice Large/Small mouth bass, and Crappie on the Bear on a pretty regular basis last summer. The Walleye remain elusive, but I've seen some others catch some quality fish.
Some of our members fish the lower Bear down towards the Bird refuge. We've dabbled below the dam a bit too - some fun tugs.

AND there's the catfish. Gotta love chasing kitties!
Not far north, if you cross the border - Preston area ID has a grundle of small lakes all in near proximity.

If you ever want to get together for an angling adventure - I always enjoy meeting and greeting fellow fishing enthusiasts. Looking to hit a Friday night kitty hunt this week. Weather is looking favorable. Just don't let Mama Nature hear me say THAT!

If you didn't see it, our recent overnighter - was a fun float trip, may not be the "best" fishing trip, but plenty of rods bouncing all the same. It's still early - water is warming.
Thanks everybody for your help. I think if this wind will stay down I will go today and try yo catch some catfish. Thanks again
