I've never fished for catfish before, but I'm going to try UL tomorrow. I have a small boat, and would like to stay somewhere on the East side. Does anybody have recommendations for places/methods/baits to try?

Thanks!

Welcome!
I have always launched from Provo Harbor. You could also launch from Lindon and fish from there down to Provo Harbor. You'll get to the "bubble up" in between and should catch some there. It's a popular area for a lot of people here on the board. You can start with worms and should have some luck. If you catch any white bass or carp you can cut em up for bait and they work great! Good luck and let us know how you do!

Thank you!!!! I will let you know. I should say, my boat is a small 14' with a 10-horse motor, so I'd like to keep it within a half-mile from the harbor (preferably the Provo boat harbor). Would it be effective to just toss cut bait in pockets along the phrags?

If you have your second pole permit then try out deeper with one pole while trying shallower with the other pole until you find what depth the cats are most active at.

With this last cold snap they may be out in deeper water depending on how much the lake cooled off.

try in about 1 to 2 feet of water pretty much anywhere in mudlake and you shouldnt have any trouble. the very south shore around lincoln has been good but be careful of the wind.

Work water depths from 2- 5 feet and hang your offering under a bobber anywhere from scrapping the bottom to 1 foot above the bottom. Allow the breeze to drift your bait whether using carp, white bass, crawlers or shrimp. For channel cats in UL I prefer baiting with white bass but fresh shrimp or carp meat is a close second.

Thank you to all for the advice. Unfortunately I wasn't able to go today because the wife and kid decided to get sick... [mad]

I do hope to get out soon though.

We fished UL today. Nothin at the bubble up. Went between lindon and AF harbors and found them in 1-2' of water. Use decent weight #2-6 circle and j hooks have always worked. Use shrimp on the circle hooks, worms on the others. We use 12"-24" of leader... Which is probably way more than necessary for catfish. Just move til you find them and keep throwing shrimp at them, that seems to work more often than worms for us - Unless its those little yellow bellied bastards you're wanting to catch.

I have fished cats 6 times this year from a boat on the north corner by lehi an af boat lauch an have yet to be skunked. Some days slower than others but raw shrimp on bottom next to weeds tie a heavy weight on the swivle then about two foot leader with just a hook tied straight to line. put ur shrimp on the hook where u cant see the hook toss it out next to the weeds sit down turn on the music grab your fav drink an hold onto ur pole one thing i have noticed is there very skitish right now an they normally arent hooking themselfs so as soon as u fill a tug r two give him little slack set the hook an get ready for a fun ride. this weekend im gonna head out an fish all day an set out my set lines for couple day will let yall know how it turns out
