I'm only 3 hours into my 13 hour shift and already on the verge of murdering someone today. Thinking about taking my lunch break and heading to sunset to cast around a bit and practice with my new (and first) baitcasting setup. Does anyone know if the lake is fully open yet? It's been a few months since I've been out there.

I was out there in the evening a couple of weeks ago. The lake is now FULLY OPEN. The trout are tiny, I used powerbait mice tails. Best bait out there is probably an earthworm with some attractant or dough. I also got checked for a license by NDOW for the first time ever at Sunset Park. I was sure they'd be writing some tickets but didn't see anyone get one. Good luck.

Awesome Erawk, glad to hear it's finally open. Sunset is actually the only place I've ever been checked by Ndow, and of course I didn't have my license on me. The warden was a nice guy though, and he had dispatch look me up in the computer.

I was checked when I was in high school at lorenzi park way back.
I really can't wait for them to finish and stock the redone lake

lmao, funny story: I first fished sunset pond after stumbling across bigfishtackle about 3 years ago and the first day I went was a stocking day. I go to the pond and spend an hour trying to catch a trout with power worms after the stock. Finally, I hook up and the ranger is behind waiting to see the license I don't have. I pull in the fish and the SOB took the hook into its stomach. So here I am, no license, clearly no trout stamps, trying fruitlessly to rip this hook out of the trout while this ranger is behind me watching the fish bleed out everywhere. I get out the hook, and he tells me he would have let me go if the fish didn't die but writes me a big ticket. About a month later, I plead my case in court, and the attorney hearing my case happens to be a fisherman who grew up in the same Utah town that I did--case dismissed
