I'd sure like to get into some good crappie fishing. We eat fish two or three times a week, and my crappie supply is zero. Are they hitting well on CJ or Brownlee or is it still spotty? if they are hitting, are you willing to send me a note about best location?

Many thanks.

I have been hitting CJ at least once a week since the end of March. Still spotty. I usually show up in the early evening and fish all night. From what I've heard by asking people who are there when I arrive, fishing during the day has been very slow. I did extremely well weekend before last, but only managed to eke out around 25 last weekend. The water temps were still in the low 50s, and the cold nights we got last week kind of turned them off.

Should get much better very soon with the warm weather we have in the forecast. Really nice change over the cold, wet spring we got last year.

Bownlee has been slow but nice big crappie if you can find them. I don't think there is a lot of older age fish. Fished Owhyee Reservoir on Tuesday, Three us got 24 in 6 hours of fishing. All fish were at the upper end of the reservoir, water still cool at the lower end. looked like the females were absorbing their eggs because of the low water. I don't think there will be much of a spawn there this year. Hope you have better luck than i have been having Rick

I've done well early mornings at CJ in cove rec....but if you want to catch monster crappie go to Brownlee. I've gone there 3 times in the last couple of weeks and brought back about 50you total in those 3you trips, but they were all 12 1/2 to 14you inches long. Even had a few that were about 2 lbs.

Thanks...I do enough fishing I figured I could start helping others out on where and how to catch some fish, if they'd like the help. [Smile]

I'm hitting CJ tomorrow after work and hopefully staying till Saturday AM when it starts to warm up. I'd mostly like to hit the catfish, but crappie are a nice bonus. Thinking about Cottonwood or Jack's.

I'll let you know how it goes.

It seems like Owyhee is always good, just depends on how far your willing to go and if you want to buy an Oregon license.

Owyhee wasn't good for us Monday. After traveling all the way down to Leslie Gulch and then to the hot springs only six crappie. Very tough long day I think 1 boater said they had 25 and that was trolling almost 7 hours like us... Tony

Well, we did CJ, and it did not go very well. It was a nice night and my kid had fun, but I gotta be doing something wrong...

My buddy scouted around and decided on Jack's. We fished from mid-afternoon until about 0300 and got one yellow cat and one pike minnow (I think that's what it was anyway...) We fished cut bait, shrimp, night crawlers and I fished jigs in off and on. It was dead.

At first light we packed up and went to Cottonwood. We were there before sunrise and while there were quite a few people there, the catching was pretty slow. There were a few crappie and little blue gill being caught, but not what I would call hot. We caught 4 in 2+ hours and then called it a day.

TONS of huge carp jumping below the damn. Would have been fun to play with them, but I can never seem to get them to bite either....
