Fished Owyhee on Saturday, targeting crappie. I have only fished it a handful of times, so it's still pretty new to me. I have only ever traveled up short distance, but this time we ran up about 12 miles. I launched at Gordon Gulch, surface temperature was about 58 degrees. It was reading over 65 when we reached our furthest point. Started looking shallow at first, after just a few casts I landed a large mouth that was just a little over 2 1/2 pounds. He put up a pretty good fight in the warm water and on my medium/light crappie rod.

After a little while, and not much access success, we started looking deeper. I started seeing schools on the electronics, hanging out about 15 to 20 feet down. We caught a few, but it was pretty slow and the kids were getting bored. Trying to find a more active bite, we stayed on the move. We never really did find them though, only catching a few here and there. By the end of the day we only had seven crappie in the livewell. Looking back we probably should've stuck with the deeper schools.

Talking to other boats, some people didn't catch any and we heard someone at the ramp say they only caught two. Of all the colors and patterns we tried, the typical red and white and solid white seemed to work the best.

Overall it was a great day though, great company and nice weather!

Thanks for the report, fellas!

How's the water level on the lake? I've heard it was still kind of low, but that was a while back.

And how's the flow below the dam? Been thinking about hitting that with the flyrod sometime soon...

The water level was quite a bit lower than I have ever seen it. Comparing it to the Gloryhole, it was probably 15 to 20 feet down from the rim.

From the bureau of reclamation web site full pool is 2670' elavation current is 2634

Res is 46% of capasity it looks like it will be a bad year for the farmers in that area.

The river coming out of the dam is running at 162 cfs so it should be good to fish.

Have a great day.

Awesome, thanks guys!

Yeah, I'm friends with a few local farmers. They are planning for a very tough summer.
I've heard some farmers are not planting crops in some of their fields, so they can use that water allotment elsewhere.

Hope anyone who is doing a garden have a good one, looks like produce prices will be high this fall!
