Made my first trip to Mohave in the new (to me) pontoon boat. We got a late start, had to meet up with some friends that were coming along to catch fish so we didnt get on the water until after 9 am. Was hit or miss in most coves, saw many nice sized LMB and put about 7 SMB in the boat during the heat of the day, mostly dinks. Near 4 pm the bite picked up and started getting into some nice fish. A friend hooked into a monster SMB that decided he wanted nothing to do with the net and immediately snapped 12lb test in a pretty awesome run from the boat. I would guess his size close to 6+ lbs. looked like a football with a mouth. Its safe to say he got razzed for not managing his drag. The trick this day with the SMB was night crawlers daggin behind the boat.

I ended the day with three very nice LMB, 17" 4.5 lb; a 18" 4.8 lb and a 22" 5.6 lb all caught in the last hour of fishing. All brought in the boat by drop shot, hiding up in the submerged trees. Overall a great day on the water, which by the way was crystal clear. Put about 18 in the boat all together. A little warm and a bunch a A holes in ski boats but i am completely impressed with the quality of fish we got into.

Sounds like fun! Been thinking about Mohave lately myself but really like to go down there on week days verse weekends. Especially launching alone. Makes life mucho easier. Plus that place kicks my tail. Only been down there a few times and finding fish has kicked my arse. I guess I need to just put in the time and find them.

On the main lake or up in the river?

How's the new boat? Pics? How did it tow for ya?

I'll PM you some details of where to go. The boat tows great even with my pathfinder. i ended up going with a 1998 bass buggy with a pretty new merc 75 hp outboard. Boats in good shape just need the seats redone which i drop off tonight for new upholstery. Picked it up for a steal in AZ. Opted to run something that could hold the fam and didnt thave a payment on. Very happy with the boat.

Weekday is prob a good bet, there was a ton of boat traffic but no one was fishing. Just a bunch off water skiers and boaters.

Awesome!

If Madi was a couple years older and "legal" to drive the boat I wouldn't mind the weekends as much at the boat ramp. Pretty much stuck needing to be able to get tied up on the launch ramp pier and when it is busy that blows. Too many inconsiderate people that tie their boat up and load it pier side, go messing around, fiddle fart around, this and that. That just sucks when there is only room for a couple boats to be tied up.

Totally agree, the ramps are a little crazy and solo launching can be a nightmare in the summer months.

Awesome pics and sounds like a fun day. Where exactly is Mohave? How is it for shore fishing?

Mohave is south of Lake Mead further down the Colorado river below hoover dam and willow beach by a ways. The southern most part of the lake ends in Laughlin. Where we were catching them there is no shore access but i am sure there are many a cove you can get to by foot.

Nice report, Billy. That is a nice bass, such a nice green color to that bucketmouth.
